Hi all.
I’m getting ready for my CE test next week.
Before the training i really would ve liked to practice
reversing at least to have a feel of the trailer and i can process it a bit better… like when dad’s let their boys drive on country lanes…
Anyway … we need drivers.
i was told when i passed class 2 i would have some sort of help … i could have had an empty yard at our place on Sunday to practice with someone but was told no… it would be more harmful then beneficial…
What’s your take on this folks?
Shall i turn around and say i will consider before going driving for you at all if your willingness to help is only that much? Or they’re right.
This is my take. Practice is obviously good - - - as long as you’ve been taught what you’re practicing. Otherwise I cant see much of a benefit - probably great frustration instead!
If you have chosen a good trainer it shouldn’t be a headache.
The only reason I’m ’ throwing my toys around’ is that every practice is useful in my AND others opinion …and to fob me off instead of being parenting towards your own litter who would sign up and drive for you no mater what other companies offering in the area … turning your back and not helping with the ropes still expecting to be loyal to the company… is that the way forward in the industry? To advertise yourself?
Best way is being taught by an instructor, its all well and good having practice on an empty yard but other drivers way of doing things may not be as test standard,no 1 who passed ages ago reverses to test standards, you learn to pass then you learn to reverse properly takes years to do it without over thinking (or so I’m told lol ).
Or shunters in the shift all said… ( yes we have loads ) reversing is tricky i had trouble… i had practice before and it boosted my confidence … it did help and it would take a bit of pressure off the whole test… a few hours here and there would give you that extra… funny enough i felt the same before asking them

You speak of that mythical thing in todays world, the act of loyalty and investment!
Sorry mate, that does’t exist in today’s agency driven market.
Besides, you use them to advance yourself, and they use you, as your options are clearly more limited than a driver with a good CV…
I also think you’re making too much out of it, I’d just been disappointed the conversation wasn’t frank, and then forget it…
Thanks for the help and advice folks… yeah that’s what I’m gonna do… forget that conversation… forget loyalty… and if they need help… twitch the shoulder and scroll down…

Actually I didn’t ask, who’s paying for the training? My comments have been based on you!
Sorry my assumption, as if I was choosing to be their ■■■■■ for X amount of time, I’d have a different opinion!
I’m doing ce training now. Reversing in the yard is completely different to the reverse on the test. It’s just memorising when to turn the wheel based on visual clues e.g. stickers or clips. I had a little practice in the yard by myself before my training and it didn’t help at all.
Anyway I didn’t ask for reverse training and my employer did not pay for my training so when I pass I’m not forced to work for them. That being said if they paid for your training then you can’t really moan.

I hope that’s not an attitude going into the real world?
The ‘clues’ are there to help you understand WHY your turning the wheel at that point so you understand the action of the trailer.
If I’ve misunderstood you then I’ll apologise but it does come across as if you think it’s just an exercise in turn at this bit, then do that at this bit ?
Test isn’t the real world but a way to get the grasp of fundamentals.
I had no prior experience of trailer reversing before my training & test and got to grips with it in no time [emoji846] if I can then anybody can. It’s since I’ve passed my test I’ve taken the bosses artics out on a Saturday morning and practised reversing & manoeuvring around industrial estates etc etc.
