Power sockets...

Hi, probably a really stupid question, I have been driving class 2 for about 9 months now, mainly for agency, so have driven a lot of makes, models and sizes, I got into a 2015 MAN today that was a new fire for the company and it has no power socket for sat nav, luckily I have a iPad with google maps, earth and streetview and a bit (not a lot mind you) of intelligence, so managed my drops without a problem.

My question is, there was a pair of very small plugs tucked away under the dash, no good for my cigarette plug sat nav lead, but what are these plugs? Can I get conversion leads?

As I say have never come across a lack of plugs before, would just like to know the score with these dinky Ones.

Many thanks

They look like hella sockets so probably need a hella plug

the main reason they are not compatible is that man being similar to mercedes like to remind us that they didnt take too kindly to losing twice and being major manufacturer then they just like to make things different and non compatible for the sake of it…
buy a hella adapter which should fit.( not from man on principal).

Oh and buy a digital LED cigarette socket volt meter to stop you inadvertently plugging your kit into the wrong voltage socket and letting the smoke genie’s out

Thanks guys, much appreciated, now I have a reference name I will go and hunt down a lead, probably never come across the need for it again , but at least it will be ready in kit bag just in case.
Was amazed at the lack of cigarette lighter socket, or indeed a usb in place of it, but hey ho, learn something new every day :unamused:

First thing, if you know nothing about wiring or electric leave it alone.
Any company or workshop I have been to have fitted auxiliary sockets, either DIN or 2 pin euro sockets. You only have to ask.
I have known drivers who had to sleep with CPAP ventilators which worked in the cab, on a ferry or hotel room

MAN are a total pain in the backside with that since virtually everything uses cig lighter sockets. I have a feeling the MAN ones in some trucks arent std hella but newer ones seeem to be.

Something like this should work:

amazon.co.uk/dp/B011BVEHYG/ … jCb9KQZHWN

(Dual ended version)
amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EFLJEZ6/ … jCbSX2CVR3

May also be available at Halfords. I just bought the latter as its handy when someone has blown the cig lighter in other trucks.

Every man i’ve driven has had a cigarette socket in them. You have to find it .They hide
them behind a cover in the middle of the dash next to the ash tray.

To throw a spanner in the works
Hella sockets are also known as:
BMW
John Deere
And Marine sockets (these are preferable as they’re rubberised)

Hella sockets are preferable over cigarette sockets as they have more points of contact and are less likely to bounce around and arc

stop at any services with a shell garage youll get a plug from there.

Beware of this one if you only want 12V, its a 24 volt socket. In my TGX I simply made up an adapter with a Hella plug at one end and a double cig socket at the other.

Or a universal type

I poked, pulled and prodded the entire dash in search of one, as I have come across a few trucks with them well hidden behind panels that look like they are part of the dash, but no joy, 100% nothing there, I only found these 2 ‘hella’ type ones by using torch on my phone and looking under dash from passenger side footwell

Pain in the back side :unamused:

Thanks all for the help, I’ve tracked down a conversion lead off eBay and a voltage checker plug as advised, so hopefully am prepared for next time, although it will probably go that I will never come across this problem again.
