Seems a great idea, only downside is you have to carry your own cable. 25p per kw/h, not sure what that cost works out vs. Diesel.
You asked for power for fridges, you got, now we just need people to use them.

25p/kwh is about 5 times the normal cost of electricity. Quite frankly, it would be cheaper to run it off the belly tank, now that fuel prices are down as well.
They want to charge HGVs for using the leccy yet they provide free charging points for leccy cars
Parked up last night at Corley and I was empty,no fridge running and you’ve guessed it alongside came another fridge running and chose to stay the night,
you can’t win but I was greatly impressed how quiet his fridge actually was, window shut I could barely here the fridge cut in and run so if that was due
to the sound proofing that is available then they should all have it fitted.Too much to expect Comical Motor to run an article on fridge noise.
Any reason why most fridge trailers dont have the engine and compressor underneath the trailer like most supermarket trailers?

I can’t help but wonder what the chances are of waking up in the morning and finding no one has stolen the your hook up lead.
Another question… Why is the control panel not secured? Anybody could put -25 upto +25 and ruin the load

Morrisons and Waitrose trailers have the engine and compressor underneath instead of against the front of the trailer

Called an under-slung

5p per kw? with who exactly?
Safeway and Sainsbury had underslung fridges 20 odd years ago. Great if you don’t have to work on them, the other downside is as it’s underslung when parked in a rank of other Trailers due to the lack of air being pulled in the motors over heat. We ended up having to park them next to trailers without airkits fitted.
And in the winter snow and ice would clog the air intake.
All in all heap of dung
You’d of thought that 27+quid for 9-12 hours on a bit of ■■■■ smelling Tarmac would cover the cost of the fridge motor for the sake of the other drivers nighting out. I’ve noticed a few truck stops with signs up saying ‘fridges will be turned off at 9pm’
Personally I wouldn’t use any msa or truck stop unless instructed because of a high value load for example but ffs it just goes to show(as if we didn’t know) how out of touch these ■■■■■ in power/running the official services are out of touch with our service. The service we provide their very businesses wouldn’t cope without yet we let them treat us like scum
Hmmmmm
And FYI I don’t use lay by’s either unless a very very rare 45 stop. They’re worse then an msa

Anyone can do stuff like pull your pin, syphon your tanks, open your back doors and get in, or even twist your suzies around so they pop off at the next roundabout…
That’s why you do checks every time you leave the vehicle in public or in a yard for five minutes… I know I do in laybys and service areas when I’ve gone for some grub, or got my head down for a while…
Over a 25 year period:
(2) Occasions where my pin got pulled, both at MSA… (I suspect another driver, cos I’d left the fridge on whilst popping into the MSA)
(1) Occasion where I heard a scraping sound like my fuel cap being untwisted… Sat up on bunk (was asleep) to see two receeding backs running into the bushes. One of them looked like a lad of about 10. Cap was still lying on top of fuel tank, but nothing taken.
(2) Occasions where my fridge got tampered with, one set to -29 when it was supposed to be off to the rear of the bulkhead (someone had switched Zone 2 on) and the other when it was set to +25 instead of -25 by an erring yard marshall guy at a supermarket depot.
(4) occasions when I’ve been given a green light, and some bugger has re-opened the back, and tried to stick something else on the trailer after I’ve already retrieved my keys
(10+) occasions where a shunter with a tug has left the trailer so high up on tiptoe, that even on max uplift of 5th wheel - I’m still 4 inches or so short of the pin. Forget to check 5th wheel height, and you’re gonna stove in the suzie frame in short order.

OLEV (or now ULEV) presently fund the rollout of that at the moment with YOUR taxes, it won’t continue once they hit the relevant numbers or pull some funding.

You know they are all privately operated like many haulage companies ? Unless you regulate the issue but we have a deregulatory free marketo economy.
What are your views on giving 2 or 3 % free on all your rates ?

MSA are operated by private companies, but they are certainly not unregulated. In many cases the land is owned by the government and there are restrictions and requirements on what they can and can’t do (eg have to provide free parking for two hours, have facilities open 24/7 etc).
I’m well aware Glen , I can tell you exactly who owns what in Gov vs private and it is all pretty much publicly available. There are 21 owned Gov ‘locations’ split into 36 ‘sites’ if you count NB/SB or EB/WB as 2 sites and a Junction MSA as one site.
The other 76 signed ‘sites’ are privately owned.
The Gov policy is here gov.uk/government/publicati … evelopment
Deregulatory in nature as requested by government to encourage competition but they squeak every so often to try and reregulate as they don’t like the situation they created in cahoots with big business and the haulage industry.
Annex B page 14 onwards, Simple table T1 page 17 gives you the 7 Mandatory requirements TO BE SIGNED on older and legacy sites there are capacity issues.
There seems to be an issue in that people think MSA’s are truckstop, they are not. TheIr primary purpose is for drivers to take a ‘break’ not a ‘rest’, surmantics maybe but the night trunkers are screwed trying to get a break because overnighters are not in ‘truckstops’.
Anyway that’s slightly off topic but it’s about the sum of it
