Post office night drivers

Sorry only my second post and I’m getting right nosey. What’s the score with working for them? Currently in London , but would like info for up North as well . Cheers chaps.

Get in through agency, jobs don’t come up often and when they do there’s lots of applicants.

Cheers M1cks. I try on the whole to find jobs where I can take it easy, I’d imagine the PO would be a right doss. What’s the money like?

Work is easy. All indoors (apart from connecting up and customer collections) clean work and no hassle from managers (Isotrack won’t receive calls until stationery)
As for money, there’s a whole conversation about it here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=103044&start=30
I’ll let you decide what’s true and what’s not.
Salary is based on a 36.25 hour week with any extra paid overtime. Up to 6 weeks holiday a year too.

Manpower agency run the Leeds Stourton depot,

I think that Manpower have the contract Nationwide. If you can get on with them the pay rate is/was quite generous.I dont have recent experience but £17.00 per hour night shift rate 5 years ago.

Anybody know how to go full-time with the PO without going through an agency?

Salary is based on a 41 hour week of which you don’t get paid for meal breaks, leaving you on “duty time” the 36.25 hours. - Still good in this day and age, compared to all that 55-60 hour “contract salary” ■■■■■■■■ going on out there nowdays.

You start with 4 weeks stat leave, and it rises to an additional two weeks after 20 years service, so don’t think you’ll be getting 6 week’s holiday straight out the gate!

Manpower don’t have exclusivity everywhere in the UK, for example PRDC (park royal to you guys)
They lost the contract there, and the new agency who’s taken over are struggling…

Manpower near me won’t let me sign up because “They’ve got too many ex-royal mail drivers on our books already”.
Either that, or they just didn’t like my face when I walked in sticking a clean licence and a “can work any shifts” attitude up their noses, knowing that they’ll not be many requirements to do “earlies” which I never liked.

The impression one gets from the outside is “Once you go in there, you’ll never leave - through your own choice!”

Fill your boots people.
