Has anyone here worked for a company called driving plus? Heard good things, but just wondered, had a call from them.

â⌠I think after an industry shakeout âŚâ
Thatâll be the inadvertant ââŚshakeoutâŚâ as initiated by an inept, pro-EU UK Government mis-management strategy of burying itâs head in the stodgy, infertile & arrogant sand of the European Federation
Doubtless itâll serve others (doing âBritish jobs for British workersâ, my hat) before it serves the guts of us paying the ÂŁ53 million per day subscription fee
Ho-humâŚ
PS With this pm âblue-chipâ company driver now detailed for one of their DCPC modules at 06.00hrs on the forthcoming Bank Holiday Sunday morning (over a 45) I remain âmade-upâ about the whole daft fiasco that pro-EU Lib/Lab/Green/Con trolls encourage
There must be a shortage of agency mates aswell; The useless prick who failed to turn up yesterday has been assigned to me on Monday. I will have my revenge as heâs never done the job before and weâve got a 4.5t handball firstâŚFollowed by a 1.5t then a 1t. I put the run in this order, leaving the pumptruck jobs 'til last.
Today I have bought the local rag, just to see if there were any vacancies in the immediate areaâŚ6 Haulage firms in spitting distance of myself, including the one I used to work for and they have never advertised that I know of, because they pay well, so never usually stuck for drivers!
I have got a nice little job lined up for tomorrow from an agency that is paying more than my last driving job was paying.
I have also booked my last two DCPC courses as I cannot seem to go 5 weeks without a drive
You are a cruel cruel man!

The only time I had a mate not turn up - I got sent home, because H&S rules meant that I was not allowed to proceed with the job on my own.
I never got paid for turning up either! Useless U$ owned agencyâŚ
The job was handballing a 17t out at different shops along Oxford street.

No.
PS Ask me one on cricket. Alternatively, start a thread of your own, you might get more attention. Which is what it seems you need. Have you had enough yet?

I donât care if there is a shortage. There is no way I would ever come back to the long hours stress related crap job driving is. I hope you all end up on ÂŁ25 an hour your all worth every penny. Me Iâm happy with little money and no stress. Each to his own.
âOne mans pleasureâ and all thatâŚMay I ask what work you do now that has no stress? I am only in the process of getting my licenses and have never even driven a lorry but I have done lots of different jobs and I can tell you that by far the worst of the lot was one which most people consider to be a doddleâŚworking in a call centre. Chained to your desk for 8 plus hours a day, your boss constantly monitoring you and on your back, 5 minutes a day toilet time, 300+ calls a day where at least 30% of them treat you like â â â â , lots of targets to hit I could go on and on I was stressed out to the max; I donât know how I lasted 4 years there. I would do hard manual labour (which I have done) over that call centre job any day and compared to that lorry driving to me sounds like a dream. Of course it is not a dream but itâs all to do with your nature and temperament and what you enjoy. âOne mans pleasureâ and all that.

It must be demeaning indeed working in such places if there are plenty of half-decent looking girls out there prepared to sell their arses instead.
Suppose it makes more sense to spend an hour a week on your back for the same money than whaty youâll get for a full weekâs work at some establishment where the âcustomersâ treat you like crap on their shoesâŚ
Thing is - what are us guys gonna do? Prositution isnât an equal opportunities employerâŚ
I have worked in factories as a fitter setting up production machines and after a stint working for the Queen and Country (then TA for 12 years RCT) I then went on the buses at 21, after 17 years driving I went into the office for 7 years before redundancy. Since then I have driven 7.5t, worked for a lift company, did a stint rigging for a stage crew and some how ended up in a first call point for a housing association and this was agency. Trust me they are the same in every employment sector
I then got a job thanks to my father in law at my current company as a warehouse man looking after hundreds of FLTâs and this led to my current job delivering/moving FLTâs.
I must say the most stressful job by a long way in my humble experience is the bus driving, I hated all but the first two years of it.
Being confined to an office was irritating at best but I seemed to be lucky and always had a great team and small offices to workin, I even had my own office at one point.
Drive a bus for a week around Liverpool and you will have a years worth of stories to tell
does the ferry still run across the mersey gen question
have never seen it

Yes as a commuter but less so these days as its more a tourist thing, though it does have a bar on too
merseyferries.co.uk/Pages/default.aspx
My family and myself have has a good few days out on the ferry, the bar helped
The best was a good few years ago on the ferry watching the 5th November fireworks on the river, one to remember

Yes they really need to clamp down on gun crime in Liverpool. And shell suits.
thanks for the link drift, but can you tell me where the original ferry sailed from in Liverpool and where it docked on the other side presuming it would be birkenhead

Well having to order drivers everyday my self and having tried the 7 or so local agencyâs and now venturing further afield I am starting to belive that in the near future there will be a massive shortage, I normally use about 15 agency a day 7 days a week and am struggling to get them all and full time drivers⌠Well adverts seem to be a waste of time, I donât know if thatâs cause no one wants to work for us but it seems like itâs a struggle across the board! I have 4 drivers out of a fleet of 73 who are planning to jack it in in September and at the mo am not sure how we will fill their seats! Good drivers are very hard to come by!ok so you need a lot of driverâs so whatâs the job whatâs the pay whatâs the location you have the perfect platform here if its any good I might be interested +some more of my m8s
its crap pay, crap conditions, crap job, thats why they are short of drivers

It now does a triangle, Liverpool Pierhead, Wallasey and Bikenhead I cant emember the order but the timetable on that link should show it, its a nice walk from Wallasey to New Brighton
DonutUK:
Companies will simply turn to Boris from Bulgaria or Albania, with his 3 licences, 3 tacho cards and 3 DCPC cardsâŚwilling to work for ÂŁ6.80 an hr because thatâs a fortune back homeâŚ
Oddly enough, if you went to any of these countries - youâd not get much âHolidayingâ done with change out of a tenner, unlike proper third world countriesâŚ
Remember back in the 80âs when you used to go on holiday somewhere, and you could get a half and half spirit drink for 50p, a meal for two out for a tenner, and hotel stays were something like a fiver a night with breakfast?
Compare that to now, and any âcitybreakâ to some eastern european destination would require at least a grand (including spending money) even for a short dirty weekend, especially if you didnât take your girl with you.

Sorry, just read this post⌠Itâs based in Leicester, yeah possibly not the worldâs greatest company but itâs half decent if ya work hard, itâs general haulage, running reno, iveco, and a few scanias. The pay is 8.50 pH 4 45 hours guaranteed then 1150 pH hour after that, 1150 sat 14 Sunday plus 40 quid extra shift bonus as long as you do a paying job 24.50 n/o so no not the best I guess but reasonable I think, I always made a good living here. Ok itâs not got all the glory I guess most are looking for but I do my best 2 keep drivers happy and to make sure every1 earns a good living! The company is widdowsons, at the moment we are looking 4 drivers if anyone is interested!
