RIP drive

RIP. Thoughts are with all involved.
The Highways get slated for closing roads for no reason. Why have Thames Valley Police closed the opposite c/way for recovery. I just showed photos to a recovery operator who stated that the truck could easily be recovered from the same c/way, so why close the A34 in both directions for no reason?Because you can be sure a large amount of ■■■■■ will rubber neck and be taking pictures rather than driving as they should be
Still no reason to shut it and mess up other peoples’ days. I thought I would be last back this afternoon, reading above now I know why I wasn’t. Bad accident but these things take too long most of the time, must cost loads to the economy (I was 3 hours late finishing on Friday because someone drove off the M1 into the trees).
I think they made the right call in shutting it both ways I’d lay a weeks wages on it Tht if the southbound carriageway was left open there would have been at least 5 miles of standing traffic with the rubber neking and loss quite a few shunts in the que
At the end of the day the road was shut cos Somone lost there life Somone Tht was probably sat down at the dinner tabble eating a roast dinner on sun a noon with his family may b so if I lose a few hours over it not really much of an issue
Fridays crash on M1 at J22 has turned fatal as well
Well said Monarch, some nobs on here-clueless…
R.I.P Driver thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
In this case it looked completely necessary to close both ways for recovery.
Southbound lanes were closed temporarily while the vehicle was recovered.

I gotta say, I don’t think rubber necking is a good enough excuse to close a road. It’s tragic when folk are killed doing there job but what’s done is done and unless closing the road is necessary it shouldn’t be done.
I can’t say I’d fancy weaving around the front of that wrecker at flow speed, worried about the guy in front “sudden stopping to eyes right”…
When you’ve got a couple of handy link roads to divert the traffic via Newbury, then why not use them?
Some places are better for “road closed both directions - diversion” than others it has to be said.
I didn’t read anywhere whether this poor fella died at the wheel, or was killed in the impact. It’s still shocking though that as many of us “die in service” as do.
We’d all like a long, comfortable retirement. Being told that "Statistically, you have a higher chance of dying doing your job than many, and even if you do survive the job, statistics say that "working man be dead 7 months after retirement" and all that.

its not closed likely because they want too its more a fact that if it weren’t closed they would have had further incidents causing further delays and possible other injury’s. You know yourself you only gotta have something going on on the other carriageway and bang you have a shunt because numb nutz is not paying attention… It happens every year on the M5 by Bridgewater because the V Dub meeting on a patch of land next to the motorway , Its a Hazard, it has a number of shunts EVERY year because they have a big tent and lights etc …
The council police and highways can do NOTHING about it …
Never good to hear of these Accidents, R I P to Driver and condolences to Drives family.

The problem is, people are largely let off after the fact. Shunting someone from behind can lead to serious consequences and until the punishment for doing it reflects those consequences folk will drive round without a care in the world.
