Possible Strike at the Tunnel

Just reading on another forum site I use that there may be strike action for a week starting 7th Aug.

I can’t verify it but it seems that Eurotunnel have informed Dover port and the ferry companies.

Just in time for their new ferries then   What a happy co-inky-■■■■ :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

oh jeez! :unamused: thanks Glen for let us know!

Next week I will off to Poland via train on 8th! fingers crossed! :unamused:

just out of interest what if you have booked train or ferry then strike start so does company pay refund or offer to different alternative like use ferry instead train - free charge?

Thanks again

No idea Im afraid, if MyFerryLink starts in time they will probably put vehicles on that as its part owned by eurotunnel

I prefer the boat anyway. Get a shower, bit of grub and a breather.

A little more info I have found out as to the cause of possible industrial action at Eurotunnel.

Eurotunnel in strike vote over sacking of a train driver diagnosed with cancer

25 July 2012

Unite, Britain’s biggest union, is balloting 68 drivers operating trains on
Eurotunnel for strike action over the sacking of a fellow driver who had been
diagnosed with possible cancer.

On 13 April 2012 Ray Field, a former Unite union representative for 15 years at
Eurotunnel, was diagnosed with possible skin cancer after a GP noticed lesions
on his skin. Earlier in March he had requested holiday for the following six
days after his medical appointment, which was refused by the company.

Ray received a medical certificate from his GP signing him off work for two
weeks citing depression as a result of the doctor’s concerns. His mother had
died of skin cancer at a young age and the psychological stress caused by the
doctor’s concerns, led Ray to take the decision to go abroad for six days to
clear his head. Ray already suffers from high blood pressure and had been put on
to non safety critical work.

The lesions were subsequently removed and confirmed as cancer. However, Ray was
given the all clear at the start of June as tests showed that the cancer had not
spread.

After the company found out he had gone abroad an investigation followed.
Eurotunnel took the heavy handed and cruel decision to dismiss Ray on 29 June.

If workers vote for strike action it will mean the total suspension of
Eurotunnel services during the peak holiday season. The ballot opened on 19 July
and will run for two weeks.

Unite regional officer Dave Weeks said: “Eurotunnel’s behaviour is heavy handed,
cruel and callous. His friends and colleagues are not prepared to accept the
company’s outrageous decision to kick a man when he is down. This dispute could
be resolved at a stroke if Eurotunnel do what is right and reinstate Ray.
Otherwise there is a very real possibility that Eurotunnel services will grind
to a halt during the peak holiday season.”

ENDS

Thanks again Glen

Is that because the con has been exposed and gone pear shaped?

After reading the above concerning the train driver & his health problems not only should they strike but everyone should boycot the train too. A bleedin joke in my view
