Hi All
Just been thinking, my current lorry doesn’t have air con, do any of you use a portable unit or recommend something?

Go old skool, or ask for a new vehicle with air-con,it’s the 21st century not Victorian times like some would think…

Unless running Middle East or North Africa, wind down a window.
Snowflakes like you, always moaning about things, does my swede in.
Just a thought if the weather does ever get that warm you need aicon.
try opening a window.
Or buy a plug in fan
Be another 4 or more months before the days get hot enough to worry about, if the job is average you could well find another job in the meantime that runs decent tackle, course if its a dead mans shoes job paying over the odds or finds you working 2/3rds typical hours for average money, then as above, open the window and put up with it till you move up the ladder enough to get a better motor.

Yes wind a window down works for me ,let’s some noise out plus it’s cheaper than having an extra pulley on the belt
snow flakes
.Got to dash just going out in my air conditioned sprinter
get a plug in fan and a bag of ice cubes
and somehow tie the bag of ice cubes in front of the fan and instant airocn
Its probably a DAF rigid so not a chance of air con. Not actually much chance of anything useful in those.
When you get class 1, then you might get air con but don’t assume the button actually works. So many are broken and they cost well on the wrong side of a grand to fix.
Portable fans sortof work, just check there’s a 12v socket. As for anything else, you’d need a serious inverter wired to the battery as electric air con units (of any usefulness) tend to require serious juice.
Unless you’re lucky enough to have one fixed above the cab. If you are, got any jobs going?
Most Air Conditioning Systems don’t work because drivers only use them for two days a year, if you use them all the time they keep working.
Driving with open windows wastes more fuel than running an aircon system. I have aircon in the car and use it as much in cold weather as hot, it helps keep breathable air circulating and helps clear the windows

The biggest problem is quite a few, don’t know how to use modern climate control, It’s quite simple, press Auto, select Temperature, and just drive. But no, they have to put the fan on, fool about with the vents, and turn a/c off… A/C should be on all year, it keeps the windows demisted… How many vehicles do yo see with all the windows misted up, A/C on and that wouldn’t happen…
And fixing A/C isn’t as expensive as some people think.

+1…
Just set to auto and let it get on with it.
The only time I found it couldn’t cope would be heading directly into the sun in Spain when it was up over 46 degrees outside. I set that to max recirc on full blast and still sweated my betty’s off.
The windows down brigade suffer from all sorts of nasty bugs flying in or bouncing off your mirror and then dying on your bunk or down the back of your seat.

When we had renault T range units I never felt like they would warm me up without winding the temp up to 24 or more. That included one or two 69 plates so would hope to discount a sensor just being broken.

Mine spends more time on than off especially in Winter as the windows are constantly misted up. In fact last night, if I turned the engine off for more than 5 mins, I had to run aircon for 5 just to see. In theory everyone’s aircon should be running all day currently.
As for the comment about steaming windows - don’t think about that too much as its probably not a lack of aircon. Good thing you can’t see the video playing on their dashboard.
Fixing aircon - many moons ago I had a battered Merc rigid and to fix the rad was going to be 400 quid. New air con unit, quite a bit more, although I am surprised thrres not a market for reconned ones.
Oh and what is this climate control and auto button of which you speak? Ah, you don’t drive a wrecked DAF, that explains it. Us mere plebs have to adjust the temp up and down 20x a night, as there’s a 1 degree difference on the dial between roasting and freezing.
