Port Talbot

Seems like Tata has pulled the plug on the Port Talbot steel works, what will be the repercussions and now will the UK government stop sending aid to India when it’s now us that need it.
(And if any one I know buy a Jaguar car I will key it !! :frowning: )

The inevitable result of a government that’s dedicated to the idea of global free markets to the point where we’re now predictably being subjected to economic warfare by our competitors. :unamused:

But the UK government is now in negotiations to get it back under their control (if what I hear is correct, like the Scottish gov has to a couple of places these last few weeks) But the galling bit to me is why ffs are we still sending out financial aid to them and then to be royally ■■■■ plugged in return ■■?

FFS It"s losing 1,000,000 {for those that are no good with numbers, that’s ONE MILLION] pounds "PER DAY

I’m sure i heard the aid too india is coming too an end…And not before time to…

bit of a daft comment considering the entire steel industry employs less than 18K in a market that has been costing god knows how much over the years compared to a single company that employs 32k+ however many in supply/supporting industries. I think for every person employed at JLR, 6 are needed in the supply chain or something daft.

I’m sure it was tongue in cheek  but just to put it into perspective that the steel industry has been a loser for years while JLR is a real UK success story and should be supported.

JLR is only a success story in recent years since it was bought out by foreign interests … Tata !

It’s losing a fortune because people aren’t buying uk made steel they’re buying zb quality dumped Chinese etc imports made by exploited underpaid workers. In an obvious deliberate attempt to wage economic warfare on us.While because of those with your logic we’re well on the way to being a sitting duck having allowed our strategic industries to be taken out one by one. :unamused:

WHY is it loosing £1m a day though??

If Tata can’t make it pay, I’m not sure who will.

We need to stop closing down our industrial capacity because otherwise we will be relying on others in other countries for all of our basic resources - never a good thing.

Have you thought that the government might be lying ?. :bulb:

Great to see that Cameron is on the same side as the obviously pro Chinese Communist World Socialists. :unamused: While, unlike their Ozzy counterparts, the Brit Unions have obviously lost the plot in that regard.

Note the conflict of interest here which destroys the credibility of Tata’s ‘protests’ concerning dumping of Chinese steel.

If there was any profit to be made in exporting daft conspiracy theories, you’d have cancelled the national debt out by now.

.

Some of the 6 jobs to 1 JLR job, are no doubt at Port Talbot, and the same could be said of the steel industry, or any large industrial concern. Though I do agree that raymundo comment about Jaguar cars, is somewhat misguided.

Please don’t damage mine. Love my Jag.

As for the Tata situation, it’s just another example of Britain bending over. The Chinese have been dumping cheap steel here for God knows how long, and our illustrious leader combo George & Dave haven’t done a thing about it.

Shout as much as you like about imported steel,it has been happening for years, because it was cheaper, and no Government be it Tory Labour Liberal has done anything to stop it.
Even when BL and PSF where around producing cars and body shells they used imported steel,to maximise profit and they where Nationalised
Many Drivers will remember going to Kings Lynn and Wisbech along with the London Area and back loading imported coils and flat steel from Sammy Williams,Pinns Wharf and many other Wharfs and Jetties.
As for the Chinese steel using cheap labour they more than likely get paid relevant to what the rest of the country gets paid, maybe not as much as our minimum wage but it could be good money to them.
No different to some Drivers in parts of the UK getting more than a Drivers in certain other areas, because their Boss has under cut the next man

It was meant to be taken light heartedly but some on here have the sense of humour of a snail

I like Jags too, but prefer Bm’s !

The issue isn’t Chinese steel being sold in China at Chinese wage rates. It’s zb quality stuff being made at ‘Chinese’ wage rates then put into the ‘UK’ etc markets. In addition to foreign takeover of UK industry with the obvious intention of closing it down. The analogy would be those drivers in a ‘certain’ area working for much less than the minimum wage then undercutting everyone else in addition to a pricing policy based on under cutting at less than cost to take out the competition which would obviously breach O licencing conditions.Or in this case more like to take out strategic defence production capability of a potential enemy.

As for it ‘happening for years’ the figures say otherwise.China or India etc wasn’t even part of the trading regime in BL’s time anyway. When it was obviously joining the EEC which was the ( lesser ) issue then bearing in mind the gap between domestic demand and domestic supply before v after 1973. :unamused:

Meanwhile the government talks more bs in saying that it’s looking for a mug to buy what remains of the steel industry. While at the same time continuing to leave the door open to unlimited imports.Great business plan that’ll work. :unamused:

Celsa to go next■■?

Seems a similar dilemma to the importation of Polish coal. As said, the Chinese are the central rogues here (with Tory endorsement of course). International aid seems to have insidiously evolved into more of a sweetener to help fight the recipient country`s “undesirable” bomb-happy factions, than to assuage crushing poverty and hunger. Much less controversial than sending military assistance in the form of troops. Why else would we throw money at a country which is independently developing nuclear capability alongside a space programme?
On a more serious note, i would personally love to see the Indians land an elephant on the moon.

Blimey great picture the scene.Chinese engineering makes a copy of the Saturn 5 up scaled to the point of carrying an elephant in the command and lunar modules so the Indians can pretend it’s their’s. :open_mouth: We’ll probably be able to hear the crash and explosion at lift off from here. :smiling_imp:
