can anyone explain who this is or why they have scanned my ports 6 times in the space of 5 minutes?
It all depends what port they were trying to scan as each port is for a specific task i.e. port 23 is for telnet. Doesn’t explain it but might help to try and figure out what they are looking for and why.
I used to do portscans or Nmap in linux parlance all the time when working on servers, bascially to see if anyone else was logged on from our US office and check what they had done and randomly around all our UK office network to check for security etc etc.
If you fancy getting Nmap for Windoze so you can see what ports you have open, it can be found here

I think this should be in the computer section, but anyway.
They (the particular company) may not be at fault. It could be a user on that system that is port scanning the world…
I used to get horrendous amounts of hits when I was on modem/software firewall.
Basically they’re trying to hack into you. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are, they’re doing it for fun, or probably to access your files, whatever they may be.
If you have a firewall that has told you this then you’re probably safe from them.
You can try and report it but in my opionion nothing is ever done

I get a couple of hundred port scans a day. That’s life on the 'net nowadays, unfortunately. I read recently that the average time between connecting an unpatched Windoze machine to the 'net and it being cracked is less than half an hour.
Make sure that you have good firewall and antivirus software, and KEEP IT UPDATED.
Global Net Access provide internet access and server space for anyone willing to pay for it so it could be a multitude of things scaning you. Just turn the notifications for port scans down. It’s your firewall doing it’s job and nothing to worry about. I’ve got my setting at quite a high level as well but I like to keep a check on everything that comes and goes. Just sit back and be happy that it’s all working ok.
I have used a bit of software called PeerGuardian. It blocks specific IP addresses. So if like me you download the occasional bit torrent then it’s well worth having. It’s not a replacement for a firewall though and I only have it running when I’m downloading.
