Poppies

Someone at work yesterday asked “is the British Legion now H4H?” I know they’re not but I did wonder has H4H “taken trade” from the BL? Must say I haven’t seen any poppy sellers about yet.

Have seen a few in Morrisons supermarket

Help for Heroes usually request people visiting their site in November to click through to the Royal British Legion instead.

I’ve seen a few, one in Asdas today - had a quick chat with the collector and bought a poppy.

I support the poppy appeal. I no longer support H4H and support combat stress instead. The lads and lasses in afghan now are seeing more action in 6 months than most troops saw in the whole of ww1 or ww2. This is bound to have a long term effect on them mentally and combat stress helps them.

The difference is the lads and lasses in Afghanistan are doing a job they signed up for and understood before they started. In WW1 and WW2 they weren’t all in that position.

I have every sympathy with the current service men and women as I don’t believe they are fighting a battle they can ever win,and I actively support their charities. But, if you join the services you have to expect to be on active service when required.

If you become a driver and get killed on the road, it’s the same - you hope it never happens, but it does sadly. I guess it’s just part of the job.

Bought poppies today for myself, Mrs and Mini Muckaway. This was the first poppy seller I’d seen.
Was quite disgusted to hear some smarmyarse say “I keep the same poppy every year and I don’t get the poppy seller staring at me.”
Not much disgusts or offends me and I have to be honest I don’t take a lot of notice when the news announces a death in Afghanistan but this was way out of line. I thought of saying something but I’d probably get the sixth form John Lennon Commi peace lecture in return.
