It looks to me as if that is the same guy Did you give him one of your speical stews or has he just been drinking the water?
I’ve seen you’ve made referance elswhere to spreaders are you shore you were taking photos of trucks or have you got something you need to tell us
Regards Keith.
The guy in the red jumper in the earlier pics was driving this F89.It’s the only time I ever saw him and never got to know his name.Anyone know him, this is circa 1975.
Was this the Sean Moran that I met once in the Middle East, mid '70’s?
There was a gang of us pulling out of H4 in Jordan to cross the desert to Turaif in Saudi.I don’t think the others had crossed before and I had only done it once. This Sean Moran said,“Follow me,I’ll show you the way!”
Well you are always glad when an “Old sweat” offers some help aren’t you?
We must have dug up half the desert getting across and it’s never taken me as long before or since. We spent more time digging than driving!.After this I always went on my own,I can get lost by myself thanks!
I even had time to take some pics because I thought this would be a trip to remember.
This ,ll be your man then. ( taken from another thread )
Normally to be found wearing a crisp white shirt and white towel around his neck, always immaculate.

and a navy jumper, from the army & navy store.

As has been said on other threads about the Middle East,no matter how many years you did the job, some people you met most trips, some you never met at all, some, like Sean,I only met the once and have not seen him since.
I only ever used the plane once, but had many a rough crossing on the Coutance.
Unfortunately i,ve got no photos but sadly i,ve still got one of these
Hi even sadder mappo I had one of those stickers and cut out the ferry and stuck it to my side window
Sad or what
Regards Keith.
dessert driver, glad i,m not the only saddo mate,
I cut out the thumbs up truck for my bumper.
Well i was young then.
Hi mappo I was showing my 17 year old lad what I was replying and he said I should have cut out the truck I think you are right it is a young thing
I started collecting country stickers that I went through ie “B” “D” “NL” etc but progresed to other types, all cleen of cource. And you could not be seen out without the flags in the window.
It was a bit different than the plain factory painted trucks you see today.
I took the 144/530 that I drive now to the testing station for it’s 12 monthly and was told to remove the internal rear view mirror that was stuck in the windscreen or they would fail it becouse it could obscure the forward view. So no flags now a days even if you wanted them.
Regards Keith.
Hi I wonder what VOSO would say about the mirror we had fastened to the grab handle in the cab on the passenger side facing forward. It was helpfull when driving on the other side of the road and saved having to pull out to far to see if there was anything coming the other way before overtaking.I even had one for use in this country when I had a left ■■■■■■.
Did anyone else do the same ?
Regards Keith.

Yes I did.A great help before you move up to a left ■■■■■■.
I had one guy say to me that he would not have a left ■■■■■■ because all the English drivers in accidents caused by overtaking had the drivers side smashed in!
When I said the advantage of a left ■■■■■■ was that you could see to overtake without pulling right out,he couldn’t see it.
I must admit, once I got onto left hookers,I only worked for firms that had them after that, couldn’t go back to a right ■■■■■■.
Had my first on Chapman and Ball,Simon International were all left hookers as was Expo Freight.
Hi Ian
It was this photo that I posted on page 1 that reminded me about the mirror inside
We used to have them on the outsde to start with, like this one, but it would catch the flies and get dirty very quickly.
Regards Keith.
Hi shady- Steve do you have any idea of the reg.no. of Rycrofts Kw or a pic showing the reg?
Do you remember the guy who said he used to drive it- tall slim brown hair and glasses-no not you -a proper driver?
I can’t remember who he was driving for at the time but he was doing Portugal when I was. I am sure that KW is still about but has been re-registered but I can’t find the origional reg.
Gavin
i’ve just been chatting to my Dad about this thread.
Years ago when he used to take me out during the school holidays he used to mention having to put the truck on the ferry and then fly over to meet it.
I used to think, yeah i don’t believe it but after reading this thread i’ve had to apoligise to my old man.
He said he used to dread flying as the old thing would struggle up into the air after numorous take off attempts and he’s not a bad fella for flying but he said he used to be quie weary of this flight.

Hiya Gavin
Sorry matey don’t have more photos of kw,but the guys name I’m sure was Peter Akkad, will be able to confirm that later,as for the reg.that i hope will come @ the same time.
I work with Martin Stevenson who also drove it,and also worked for ECT, and when i can get hold of him he should be able to come up with the goods.
Gavin,
Martin thinks the reg.started YHW.he cant remember the rest ,but thinks he has a photo around and will let me know.
