How come firms such as this lot can provide their drivers with the most expensive version of the type of truck on the market, with all the crap fitted, and a premium paint job, thus displaying to all they are far from short of cash, or scared of splashing out rather than economising, and then go on to treat their drivers with a cynical attitude towards wages to the extent of earning a nationwide reputation, is it just simple old fashioned greed or what.

Because they will attract what I call The Glory Boys. All they want is a Scania with a fancy paint job, big engine and a [zb] load of lights and bling all over. Couldn’t give a toss about the wages as long as they’re in a blinged up Scania they’re ‘Living the dream!’ [zb] idiots.

Surely any of their drivers - like all of us can decide on who to work for and who to avoid like the plague. Those who dont need the money or dont care have every right to work there without being slagged off for doing so.

The industry is littered with bad paying companies - or companies with poor employment records no matter which part of the country you reside.

Whatever works for these companies in their business practice, works for them. If they run legal then best of luck to them. Surely their drivers doing the same should be left to get on with it?

Race to the bottom. More fool the drivers who haven’t got the balls to work for a decent rate.

I think with this firm it’s the fact that the money is crap and you don’t get treated very well either ,bad combination in my view…
My pay is average for my aera but we are looked after.

I was thinking about this. If they are able to put bums on seats whilst paying poor wages then they aren’t going to raise it anytime soon are they. If you can put someone in a wagon for £7 per hour then why would you offer to pay £8 per hour? It’s the same argument I have with footballers being overpaid. Yes I think they are massively overpaid but if someone offered you £200k a week you ain’t gonna turn round and say no mate ill do it for £50k a week are you. You can only go on what’s being offered and if that suits you then fair play.

Matt.

All flash and no cash, I never lasted long. Try Coultards mate, they have trucks based around central Scotland.

The problem this firm has is like a lot of others today, lack of profit, turnover up from 21m to 27m but profits down from 400k to 246k,there is a lot of work involved in generating sales of that amount for very little return.

While I would agree with that wholeheartedly, companies like this are big enough really to have no-one other than themselves to blame for allowing this to happen. All they are doing is spinning the race-to-the-bottom wheel faster. These large companies are very good at creating a local wages cartell, but show no interest whatsoever in standing up together against customer demands for lower rates, preferring to cut the throats of their competitors simply to ‘grow the business’, meanwhile failing to see that all they have really done is to sharpen the knife which will cut their own throat. Many of these companies invest heavily in some means of improving their productivity, and then acquiesce to customer bleating that this has produced a lower unit cost per package, which should be reflected in a reduction in haulage rate to compensate. There is no point whatsoever in such investments simply to increase turnover at the sacrifice of profit.

Regarding the published accounts, a substantial number of new vehicles paid for at the very end of the tax year will have a very significant effect on the reported profit in those accounts - the object being to reduce tax liability.

Unfortunately not. I just think they ( the drivers) are free to make their own choices as to where they work and for how much they are prepared to do it for.

You are right, but do you not think they lay themselves open to being abused in terms of money and being put on, if they show this willingness to unscrupulous companies.

Agree with Rob Roy. Said it before but there are firms around here that buy all the crap for their tippers because they’re Scanias, post a load of ■■■■■■■■ on their facebook pages then they’re on the cb moaning about crap rates.
Don’t plead poverty in an Armani suit.

Looks like money’s tight as they have just got 35 new MANs on lease rather than purchase
