Should the initial driver CPC LGV module 2 test currently on various scenarios be changed to a test on drivers hours & how to use tachographs ?
Personally I think it should as the number of questions on those issues on this site seems a lot

Seeing as I was taught nothing by training company and nothing by the last few places I worked yes. Common sense does suggest you go read up on it but I learn alot faster being shown and told and with guidance.

Did not think I’d need to say it being a truck driver lol

It should be, I only know what I know about drivers hours from reading threads on here and the .gov site.
Still not a clue on what half the screens on the tachograph are about though

I wonder where this poll comes from!
I have no particular opinion about this but I do think it would be harder for new drivers to pass mod 2, therefore harder and probably more expensive to start HGV/PCV driving…
Drivers hours and WTD rules are regulations a lot of drivers seem to find hard to get their heads around, I’m sure most new drivers find it easier to learn when they’re driving and having to comply with the regulations, now consider that there are 4 different versions of tachographs to learn (VDO/Siemens type 1 and 2, Stoneridge type 1 and 2, we won’t bother to even mention Actia tachographs) and mod 2 is going to be something for wannabe drivers to be afraid of.
I would agree there should be far more on drivers hours in the Mod 2 test and think driving schools should use the tacho during training - this then familiarises the driver with its use and wouldn’t add much to tuition time.
I have a deal with my local trainung school. A new pass who gets their CPC by Mod 2/4 is given a discount card and can book a Drivers Hours CPC course with me anytime in the next 12 months for just £15.00. My idea was it’ll help them when they start work. Not many take up the offer.
I get a lot of new licence passes doing 5 day CPC courses to get their first DQC, it is bad they know nothing at all about drivers hours and Tacho’s and are shown nothing at all during tuition. A lad here this week just passed cat C. He said he was told he’d need a week of tuition. First day was only half a day and all other days were quite short spending time in lay-bys whilst the instructor chatted on his phone. He felt ripped off and said there would have been plenty of time to show him use of the tacho etc.
I think the DCPC is the wrong way round. New drivers should do the 35hrs and existing drivers just pass a test (verbal or written) or assessment to renew their CPC. As it is new drivers are being let down.
Didn’t have anything about logbooks or tachograph rules when I started or took my test so in reality what’s changed.
In saying that
Basic use of the drivers hours. This should be taught but nothing complicated.
Most drivers just need the basics and a proper understanding of the WTD and how the 2run side by side.
I was told (if not by my instructor, then someone else), that you don’t learn to drive until you pass your test. Which makes sense with a lot of stuff - you can’t learn certain things in a classroom environment - but surely basic stuff like “how to start/stop a tacho” could easily be fitted into the course? I didn’t even know I had to do printouts or download my card when I started.
But at least I know how to find someone hiding on/in my truck, cause I didn’t have a ■■■■■■■ clue how to do that before
