Poll: Driver CPC - How many hours periodic have you done?

got my 1st 7 hr block in last week at a local college, paid 42 quid on a saturday, least i didnt have to book a days holiday, wtd, driving hrs and digi tacho, the hardest part was staying awake.got another booked next month, manual handling, carnt wait  iv done a few of these in the last few years, now ive got to pay to sit through 7 mind blowing hrs of lifting correctly, but 14 hrs will be in the bag, wish like some drivers on here i could call it a day an not bother about this ■■■■■■■■,but am only 51 and still enjoy driving, so unless them 6 numbers come up i am just going to have to grin and bear it,but at least i know the bulk of us are in the same boat :frowning:

Ive done 7hours where i learned to use a pallet truck :stuck_out_tongue: learned to change various bulbs :stuck_out_tongue: learned wtd :stuck_out_tongue: learned drivers hours rules :stuck_out_tongue:

Boring crap, god knows how they filled 7 hours. Another 7 hours in February whoop whoop :smiling_imp:

7 hours on tacho regs and driving hours. Possibly the most boring 7 hours of my life

^^ this

Next part will be ADR training, so at least I get something back off the gits.

I’ve got eco driving next :frowning:

Done the similar SAFED course. Take the TM out for a ride, he counts your gearchanges with one of those counters that bouncers use, you watch a few snooze inducing vids (at least one was moderately ■■■■-inducing as Sophie Long from BBC News was presenting it :smiling_imp: ) and then take him for another ride and the same gearchange counting.
P.O.P Really.

That just shows how crap this thing is, how the hell can anyone learn to use a pallet truck and change bulbs? What next three hours to fasten twist locks and make sure a container is the right way round :open_mouth:

Quick question…

I take it the HGV and PSV DCPC are 2 different things? or does it cover both PSV & HGV?

I also wondered, if you only drive a 7.5 ton vehicle on a normal driving licence (old type) do you still need the CPC as you still use a tacho?

Express Pete:
Got the full 35 gratis…No need to worry 'til 2019

As above…got mine for free…thank you Scottish Government.

By the looks of things, I’ll have my pick of the best jobs in 2014 as many drivers either are not going to or are refusing to obtain the DCPC.

More fool them, if they’re prepared to cut their nose off to spite their face.

Don’t count on it, most of them are the same ones who said they would under no circumstances get a digi card and would leave the industry. With a few exceptions they now have a digi card and are still here.

I wonder how many people who are close to retirement will be prepared to pay for the training, I think there are likely to be quite a lot of people coming off the road in or before September 2014.

I’ve done 7 hours so far, on wages and at the company’s expense. The next 7 hours are in the not too distant offing. No matter how we kick against it, if we want to keep on driving wagons we’re gonna have to toe the line. I’d be mighty ■■■■■■ off if I had to find the money for my own cpc. I’m sure that at some juncture, some bright ‘firm’ will come up with a ‘rubber-stamp’ company, that will do the job cheaper for those who have to pay for their selves

and here’s a thing. Unless there is a great variety of training or some kind of different training for people who have completed it all before, we’ll have to do it again 2014-2019, and then again, and then again for as long as our careers last. So we’ll have refresher training for pallet truck use. :open_mouth: :unamused:

One thing to consider with this poll is that members of TNUK by signing up to the forum have shown that they are more keen than most in following the events of the industry, and more likely to be considering their DCPC obilgations. More than 96% of LGV license holders don’t use this forum. I wonder how many people are driving 7.5 tonners on grandfather rights who haven’t even started to consider DCPC?

If you hold both bus and lorry licences you only" need" one set of training, how good is that?

done 14 hours at my expense both Big Train run courses
both were interesting days out
maybe because i was amazaed at what people didnt know

newbies dont know much neither do people who have licence and dont use it it often
this is excusable
but the things you hear from experienced drivers cant be hard to fathom

vehicle safety etc and rules and regs

i am just going for the 7 a year til its done
and then rerun thereafter

ps good venues good food but a bit pricey both on a Saturday

I must be one of the exceptions, I still don’t have a digi card, nor will I ever have one. :stuck_out_tongue: Trying to convince VOSA that I don’t have one though is impossible. The last time I said it the VOSA guy looked at me as if I just fondled his balls.

Personally I reckon hundreds of thousands of drivers will simply take a chance driving without one. Its certainly what I’ll be doing, I’ve only about 7 years before I retire. [zb]'ed if I’m going to pay to sit in a classroom this late in my career.

Done nothing yet and i don’t know what the current company policy is.

It was mentioned about a year ago, then they said they’d organise it sometime or other.
I expect they’re hoping i’ll not be around in 2014,someone elses problem…like mine.
That, or they’ll say if i don’t have it by then, goodbye.

In terms of Employment Law, is it ultimately my problem or theirs?

7 hours of module 1 (vehicle defects, load safety and security and accident prevention etc) all done in house on full pay with 2 meals included

Digi card £25, DCPC £350 + and loss of earnings at best, no real comparison.

I’m one of those who never got a digi card, not that I ever had a problem with them, but the DCPC is just a paper chasing exercise with no real benefit to anyone as there is no pass or fail, the trouble is it is a ■■■■■■■ expensive paper chase so I have already voted with my feet and got out of the job

As the law stands the DCPC is the drivers responsibility,if you dont have one then you will have rendered yourself unemployable as a vocational driver.

None so far.

If I get with a company who will pay for it I would do it, but otherwise I will get out of the industry by 2014.

On the other hand, the government cuts might reach further than we expect, and if someone high up with half a brain realises that it is a pointless exercise, it may disappear.

Yes, I bought my own digicard.

Governments cuts will defo not reach this one as it is making them money, loads of money at that!!
Plus Brussels ‘666’ is pulling the strings on this one.
