Police not interested

Driving down the A9 on Sunday on my way to Livingston, just coming to the end of the d/c at Drumochter and a car decides to overtake me.Inside lane was clear, outside lane had snow/slush on it.As the car,a 4wd,got level with my cab,he lost control and skidded in front of me.I braked hard but could not avoid hitting it.
Don’t know how he (or she)managed it,but after a bit of fishtailing, the driver regained control and then just carried on :open_mouth: :open_mouth: I managed to get the registration number and noticed that the n/s/r light was missing completely,so must have been some fairly hefty damage to that corner of the car.I stopped to check the damage on my XF. O/s/f corner panel ripped off, headlamp mounting bracket broken, lower door panel and step broken :frowning: :frowning:
Carried on to Balinluig services and called the plod to report a hit and run. After taking my statement, copper says it will be up to the 2 insurance companies to sort it out, asthere is no police interest in the incident :unamused: Driving w/o due care, failing to stop after a collision and maybe even failure to report and they’re not interested :unamused: :unamused:
Wonder what would have happened if it had been the other way round and I had hit the car while over-taking? Think I would be shelling out a few quid, receiving some points and maybe even a meeting with Joan Aitken.

You have to remember that the sole purpose of the Police is to protect the wealthy from uprisings among the lower orders.

They have never been interested in the type of incident you describe, and never will be.

I am really shocked by this. I just can’t get my head around the fact you thought the police would be remotely interested in something that might involve a bit of effort on their part. Had you been drinking and your judgement was flawed?

Excellent and well-considered riposte, if I was TruckNet I would be pleading with you to become a moderator.

Come on, its as good as the other standard rants droning on about the plod by the same old tired ranters , its as predictable as the sun setting.

Thanks for your vote though

Hello Highlander. I presume you got a log # for the incident report? That’s quite important. Also, photos of the damaged truck?

I think I’d be following this up in person at a police station stating you require the vehicle owner details.

I can see what’s coming if/when their insurers are contacted, the driver will say you hit them!

Should be followed through because as you stated there are offences to be dealt with

Yes

No :unamused: Doh :exclamation:

Plod told me the town where the registered keeper lives and that 4 people from the same family are insured to drive it.

I had that thought too.But if they tried that I would hope their insurers would ask why they didn’t stop and why they didn’t report it.In my experience, people are willing to do these things when they are not at fault, because they have the moral high ground. Only the guilty run away
One theory from the copper was that maybe they didn’t know they had hit me :unamused: As I said to him the bang was loud enough, they must surely have heard it

Damage on the back end of a car, the owner will say that the truck hit them and they were too scared to stop!

Wrong I know but it will be your word against theirs.

Another argument for in cab recording cameras.

same section of road but the car was going the other way and it happened at the other end of the d/c but a car spun out last night right in front of me. dunno how i managed to miss him but basically could see nothing due to the huge clouds of steam/snow. ive been noticing that though alot of cars have been doing dodgy passing etc since the snow has come down…or at least lying at the side of the road

Perhaps they were hard of hearing, I have noticed an increase in the use of hearing aids and every other driver appears to have one. They are easy to see, they normally have a white lead coming out of each ear.

You can almost bet that these 4 people were in the car at the time, and that they were bullied by this lorry driver who was driving like a maniac in the snow, they didn’t report it immediately as they were in hospital A & E being treated for whiplash industries. But their NoWin/NoFee solicitor is now preparing a case against you and the company.

You know what really ■■■■■■ me off, is people sticking up for the police on this forum. They are not the friendly smiling face that always gave directions and gave you the time of day. That was a childhood fairy story told to you by your parents.

Nowadays they are more likened to commission based help desk workers in Bangalore, whose only purpose is to make you commit to something you don’t want, or admit to something you haven’t done! :stuck_out_tongue:

See, Harry? THAT’S how to make an expected anti-police rant with some degree of style! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you’re really going to have problems with this, the police aren’t really interested in non injury crashes. Of course they left the scence and haven’t reported it, but trying to get a case into court will be almost impossible, so why would the Police bother.
Unlike many on here I’m not anti Police, but I think the problem is, like so many of our organisations, they’ve become target driven and politicised. It’s all do to with statistics and trying to manufactuer a “positive image” to which ever group our political masters decide is the target audience this week.

Bit late now but cases like this do seem like a very good case to get one of them roadhawk cameras.

Use the following words: I want to make a complaint about the driver of the vehicle as they failed to stop at an accident.

Do it in person at a station and if they don’t do it then, ask to speak to a sgt or insp.

If you (the complainer) go in and say you wish to register a complaint they must investigate.

I’ve got a video hd camera in the front of my wagon for that very reason 32 quid off e-bay records onto a memory card and can play it back and save it.Insurace company would love it as evidence in a claim

Would that be the Muvi camera? If so,is it any good? Apparently,I’m getting one of those for Christmas.

Without a 3rd party witness its your word against there’s hence why it becomes an insurance investigation rather than a police matter.

If you have been involved in a traffic accident and nobody has been hurt in it there may be no reason to involve the police. If both parties involved stop and exchange names, addresses and registration details, this is sufficient to comply with road traffic law and there’s no need to involve the police. Only call in the police if you believe you’ve been provided with false information from the other individual or are concerned they may have been driving illegally.

If you’re involved in an accident where nobody was hurt, but your car was damaged and the other driver doesn’t stop then you should report this to the police within 24 hours. Ideally if you can get the registration plate then that is helpful, but the police may be able to find the individual by other means, especially if the car had an identifying mark on it, such as a work logo. In these cases, the police will attempt to prosecute if there’s enough evidence to secure a conviction.

Up until now the driver involved has accused them of driving without due care, failing to stop and failing to report, they are something the CPS get involved with, not the police, they appear to have washed their hands. No one was injured.

Don’t admit fault. Apportioning blame in a car accident is for others to decide, given the full set of circumstances.

In the case of animals; You must report to the police, Under the Road Traffic Act 1988, you have to report to the Police accidents involving dogs, cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, horses, asses, mules and deer. All other animals count as ‘free roaming animals’ and do not have to be reported.

Except Badgers, they must be reported separately
