Police helicopter crash

They think (on the news) it didn’t explode because the pilot cut the fuel feed from the tank and the tank is enclosed in some sort of bladder to prevent it exploding. If it exploded who knows how many more folk would have been killed.

Its weird I don’t know anyone killed, well I don’t think I do or injured, I’ve only drunk once in that bar in my life but it has really affected me. Maybe because it is so close to home, looking at my family and friends and being thankfull they where not in there.

Some bad news. What struck was people running to the scene to help out with the casualties.
They did not run away from the scene.A big thumps up to the brave Scots.
Southern softies would have ran a mile then film it on their mobile phones.

What a stupid comment :unamused:

I imagine it didn’t explode because its not a Hollywood film

We use strong flexible fuel bladders in racing cars to reduce the chances of the fuel tank splitting during a crash. I have been told the technology came from the aviation industry, originally used for military aircraft I think. We also use dry breaks on fuel lines this means that when bits of the car break away engine for example the fuel line splits at the dry break which then instantly seals the line stopping fuel spillage.

As for heroism, it probably really difficult to tell what makes somebody go into danger or who from a group of people is the most likely to do it. I’ve known people who’ve been given bravey awards and not always for military action, and they really have very little in common except maybe their modesty and the fact that they stepped upto and beyond the mark when it was needed.

This is a lengthy thread on a pilots forum, covering some of the questions asked here, both from experienced pilots that fly these machines, and others, who don’t. (It’s 19 pages at the minute, and goes from pretty much just after the impact to a few mins ago.)

Another post that shows why no-one takes you seriously mate, tell that to the lass that approached Lee Rigbys Killers, or the lass that defied them to comfort him as he died. South London isn’t exactly Northern- your post was crass and uncalled for

But it’s Sir Toby so can be expected !

To be honest it was [zb] disgusting what happened to him, poor [zb].
Beheaded in his own town infront of thousands, and only your “women” could back him up, comforted him as he lay dying? How long do you think it takes to die after some foreign monkey starts hacking at your throat?

Personally I wouldn’t stand idle as one of my own was hacked up, machete or not. Think what you want. End of the day it could be you that needs assistance next.
Wouldn’t be hard to run the black [zb] over when they are standing parading a head around the street.
I hate how it was eventually censored so hard that they hid the fact of what happened.

Firstly you’d need to understand the level of pc attitudes which apply. There’s no room to look on anyone as our ‘own’ at least in an environment where only the indigenous population are regarded as being capable of racism. It’s obvious that it was a racist attack, by a militant section of the immigrant community, which hasn’t been classed as such for typical pc reasons.

The fact is anywhere here in 21st century uk,as opposed to the type of attitudes which apply in red neck areas of America, anyone taking your advice would probably be facing the same charges as the attackers probably with the extra aggravating factors of ‘racism’ added even assuming that they had the required arms to defend themselves and the victim which, unlike the US,they haven’t.In which case there’s a good chance they too would have just been added to the casualty figure.

The victim in this case was a casualty of the uk’s raving pc agenda regarding immigration policy and the rights of citizens to carry arms and/or carry out acts of self defence,or even the ability of the law to take the ‘required action’ which would have been obvious in this case as soon as armed police arrived on scene. Not the so called ‘cowardice’ of southerners.

As for the subject o the topic. The news tonight has mentioned the aircraft having been hovering before it crashed for at least 1 hour. :open_mouth: With all the implications of that regarding the resulting stresses in the gearbox used to drive the rotors being that we’re not talking about a large heavy duty type chopper in this case.

Really, so a year or so ago a helicopter didn’t crash into a crane in London then, ■■■■■ :unamused:

Where can I get one of these mobile phones that will film things from a mile away?

Its ok everyone, Carryfast the helicopter expert is here to solve the problem.

Does this surprise you?

He probably has as much experience of Helicopter engineering as he does of International road transport and driving big rigs in the US. I really think he shouldn’t be posting, but get down to Farnborough and give his pearls of wisdom to the AAIB, the same way as he told Euromat he taken the wrong route to Russia.

He wouldn’t have far to travel.
I thought helicopters were designed to hover ? would there not be less stress on internal g’box components while doing so ? will have to ask either of our two resident experts on all things they chose to waffle on about :unamused:

You need more engine speed/collective to make a helicopter hover = more load/stress.

In forward flight the engine speed/collective are reduced = less load/stress.

The helicopter should have been on the pavement.
