Firstly I am very pro Police before anyone accuses me of knocking them.
Accident in front of me today and traffic stopped. Was about 30 mins before road cleared and injured taken. When the road cleared one side was obstructed (my side) the Police made no attempt to control traffic while backlog cleared. Then I thought I can’t remember last time I saw any Police traffic control.
Have they had some directive not to
No directive as far as I am aware.
There are lots of things that need doing at an accident scene, and if you only have enough staff to deal with some of it, traffic control has to take a back seat (unless there are HATO or PCSO resources available). It’s very tempting to want to get stuck in and start taking control of the traffic, but in most cases it actually works best if you just let drivers sort themselves out.
No we still do it where there is a couple of spare pairs of arms, but usually if some of the panda types have been helping us for a while the calls t hey normally deal with are backing up so they dragged to them
the OB had me directing traffic once, after a nasty accident involving my artic,a car,and a mixer truck near Kilsby, back in the '80’s.i was handed a ‘Police’ vest and a torch (it was dark ),and helped direct traffic around the wreckage
If we attend an accident, directing traffic is a priority. Once the scene is made safe and casualties assessed, the next priority is to keep traffic moving.
I suppose being an ex-truck driver, I know how it feels to be stuck in traffic so I try my best to keep the roads moving!
I’ve plenty of time for traffic cops but no time what so ever for normal old bill, would you with the police force we have to put up with South Yorkshire Police the most corrupt force in the country?

Would that be the same ones who’d turn a blind eye to the systematic abuse of 1400 youngsters yet still bring the full weight of the law to bear together with many other European forces when chasing down the parents of one very ill child who are breaking their hearts trying to do the best by their boy?

Don’t forget Hillsbrough and Orgreave mate. Yet the tossers in charge still won’t do the decent thing and resign from their posts
they’ve got nothing to do with that case as they’re from Southampton it’ll be Hampshire Police force.
I totally agree that it wasn’t their area Steve, but I’d bet my pension that every police car in the South Yorks area had pictures of “the criminals” and were actively looking for them too.
So because ten drivers are useless ALL drivers are useless.
Let he with no sin…
