Police appeal for information-Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire Police are aware this is a long shot, but they are hoping the driver mentioned might have seen some thing/one that can assist them with this.

RE: ■■■■■■ assault on a woman out jogging in Irchester Country Park on Saturday morning (February 16).
We are keen to hear from anyone who was in or around the park between 5am and 8am on Saturday and now have more details about the route that the victim took - and a description of her - prior to the attack.
The mobile police station will be at the country park tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday between 5am and 2pm to gather in information.

And officers still need to speak to one lorry driver who was parked in the A45 layby by the country park early on Saturday and who could be a valuable witness.

The female victim of the assault - who is from Wellingborough - entered the country park from the direction of the A45 and ran straight ahead into the park, turning left at a crossroads and then continuing to run uphill along a wide track in the vicinity of the park’s visitor centre. It is to the right of this track, around 50 yards from the crossroads, that the attack took place.

The woman is 5ft 7ins tall and of very slim build. She was wearing all-black jogging clothing consisting of long black lycra trousers and a close-fitting top.

The police would like to hear from you:-

  • If you were in Irchester Country Park between 5am and 8am on Saturday
  • If you remember seeing a woman jogger answering this description in the vicinity of the country park
  • If you recall seeing a lone man, not necessarily arousing suspicion, in the country park or in its vicinity
  • If you recall any suspicious activity in this area in the early hours of Saturday morning
    * If you were the lorry driver of a white-backed articulated lorry which was parked in the A45 westbound layby near to the country park early on Saturday morning and left the layby at around 6.30am, heading in the direction of Wellingborough

Detective Chief Inspector Jan Meagher, who is leading the inquiry, said: "The mobile police station is down at the country park to gather in information from those who use it.

"I am keen to speak to eveyone who was in the country park between 5am and 8am to ascertain whether they have any information they can bring to the inquiry.

"Did they see the woman jogger who was attacked? Did you see a lone man hanging around? Did you notice anyone acting suspiciously? Please come forward and tell us.
“This was a serious ■■■■■■ assault which has left the victim extremely distressed. We have little to go on in terms of a description of the offender which is why if you were in the area of the country park at the time of this incident, and have information that you think may be useful, then please get in touch as quickly as possible.”
