It should be law that all MSA’s have adequate CCTV and some fellow to watch it all night, they charge enough. The Gov’t were going to build more truck parks joined to the major road network but they abondoned it recently due to cost.
There just isn’t enough decent places to park in the uk, for instance from felixstowe, once you leave Orwell Crossing the next decent, obvious place to park is Cambridge services, if you’re low on hours you may no choice but to hang your arse out of a lay by.
most MSAs have cctv but they only cover the car parks and that’s so they can invoice car owners for staying 30 seconds over the alloted free time,
if they could find a way to screw extra money out of the truckparks they’d be all over it!
but it wouldn’t be for the truckers benefit, that’s for sure.
Must be extremely demoralising for the old Bill, they go to extraordinary lengths to bring low lifes to justice, then some twerp at the CPS bolloxes the job or some idiot behind the bench decides that the perp needs another chance to put his life in order.
Be assured every proper copper i’ve met wants to see scum behind bars or suffering severely financially and compensating victims, but they don’t have the power to prosecute, and most victims are not important people…witness the hue and cry when someone important gets robbed, mugged, beaten or murdered.
Not so many years ago it was up to an Inspector who was charged and with what, instead of which the politically correct and useless CPS now makes the decisions, and some social climber behind the bench doing the bidding of the current mindset dishing out the punishment if any, its bollox and keeping the latter two groups in comfort.
As with all such things remember some of this when it comes to election time, and don’t be bamboozled by lying greedy politicians (via their cabal in the bought and paid for media) bribing the electorate with money borrowed in their own name.

They should outfit a bait one with claymore’s. That’d teach the scum.
And a gimpy on top in the next lay-by MSAs you’re just paying for the privilege of getting robbed! the haulage industry is not to blame it’s the thieves! If you think about it logically every hauliers yard is going to empty of their trampers motors, so WHY■■? don’t they let other hauliers use theirs■■? It’s not rocket science and that’s not my quote by the way that comes from some hauliers down the A14 corridor! The parking in this country is garbage! Was tramping for 23 years, now a DAYMAN! And never been ROBBED! bit of thinking about where you park, safety of the load etcetera etcetera etcetera!
How many vehicles in the uk are body on chassis, all i can think of are the pick ups (navara, hilux, L200 etc) an i own a Navara yes its powerful and fast but i really wouldnt want to be using it as a persuite vehicle, apart from that there is the Nissan Path finder and the Defender (not 100% sure they are still on seprate chassis) and maby a couple of other 4x4s again no match for a stolen hatch back.
Also to change the body over would be the same amount of work as any car as you would still have to swap all the interior and wiring out probably take the engine out anyway to get the body work off. and i dread to think what Nissan would charge me for a new body shell, probably more then the car would cost anyway, if they will even supply it
ok not saying this a ideal car but lets say a range rover sport and disco 3-4 Same car to change the body on one of them its 10 bolts 2 multi plugs body come off it same ecu as well just coded to that car at factory.wouldn’t take car makers long to put something out for the UK market like the crown Victoria (which was a car designed for police and fleet purpose) or the dodge chargers in fact a Chrysler 300CC car is a dodge charger which is a UK spec car just with a different body there bult to easy change parts/body to fix them to keep maintance costs down
A local guy to me has the contract to do the body repairs for Cheshire Police, he keeps a stock of ready painted body parts, wings, panels and doors ready to bolt straight onto damaged motors so they’re in and out within hours. Isn’t that as quick, and cheaper than keeping complete bodies

Well yes I’m not saying “oo it’s got a slight dent in drivers door lets replace the whole thing”
if the police used the same type of car all the forces and there workshop does the above^^ reduces labor times & costs I was pointing out more the body replacement for when they get wrecked so they don’t have to buy a new BMW say.
Also I was pointing out its cheaper to have a fleet of cheap easy fixed vehicles then buying a new Car and also the car that they pick are unessential ie range rover over a defender yes the defender don’t have the speed a ranger rover does but if your buying the vehicle cause its a 4x4 its half the price (retail) also the defender will go places other 4x4’s won’t also its cheaper to fix then the range rover as also everything is easy changeable and parts cheaper
For example new headlight Range Rover £1000 new headlight Defender £40
RH DOOR mirror Range Rover £400 RH Door mirror Defender £30
I.e if they wan’t to do more still like this then surly cheaper car are the solution
All the above is just supposition. Car manufacturers compete strongly to have plod driving their product - it is good advertising. Fleets of all kinds get huge discounts compared to retail - 30% is quite common - I’d lay odds that the police do at least as well and possibly better.
The construction of Europen cars is very sophisticated - for example even the windscreen is an integral part of the body. Police pursit cars are kitted out with a lot more than a set of light bars. Many will come down the manufacturers track as a special. Ordinary cop cars are a different matter and are just bog standard with some kit added on (which can easily be removed at the end of their life.)

cant you see what they are doing ■■
it gives them an excuse to sit on there arses doing nothing whilst they look good say there looking for lorry thiefs
Seeing as, in your opinion ,that I cannot see what they are doing, can you qualify this at all, or is this again simply your opinion??
yes its my opinion as the police round my way are lazy useless tossers il give you a couple of examples
i had 5k worth of stuff stolen from my lockup the lockup is surrounded my flats not once did the copper ask if anyone saw anything
the breakin happened during the day at between 11am and 12pm
my old man parked his car in a bus stop while he went in a house quick to see his mate and he left the keys in the ignition i was having a ■■■ sat on the car wing my mate comes over and we start chatting then the police pull up and do my for being in charge of a car with no insurance
i have no time for the police EXCEPT for traffic police a they do the hardest job
Chris, I get the impression that you think I am some kind of Police apologist or something, believe me I am not! Over the years I have had numerous run ins with them both as a driver and generally, some of which I have talked about on here. It was just that I was pleased to see that finally, instead of token gestures, they were being seen to be actually addressing positively, a big problem in this industry, which affects us all when parked up overnight, and hoping it was not just a token gesture but a start of things to come. Maybe you are right, but we will just have to wait and see.

yes i do agree 100% something needs to be done about all the diesel thiefts but it will only get worse with the price of fuel

over paid, under worked, bribe taking scum. probably bullied at school.
I’m not overpaid, definitely not under worked, never taken a bribe and certainly wasn’t bullied at school so there goes your stereotype argument…
As for police and trucks, the main problem that I’ve came across with other officers is that they just don’t know enough about hgv `s and tend to avoid them like the plague. Speaking to some of them and they’ve either had no or very little training about dealing with trucks and don’t want to screw up when dealing with them. Even some traffic cops avoid lorries unless they really have to! And every body knows to be a traffic cop,you have to have a labotomy…

Can you explain why you need to actually know anything about HGVs to deal with HGV related crime, a theft is a theft whether it is HGV related or not, all you are doing by stating what you have, is vindicating the opinion held by most on here, that you simply cannot be arsed, any excuse will do.

so £30k per year basic for 35 hours isn’t overpaid? compare that to a soldier.
the police are overpaid, they do [zb] all for the money.
You are perfectly correct - you don’t need to have any knowledge of hgv legislation to deal with theft. I probably worded my previous post slightly wrong. I didn’t mean to imply that cops avoided hgv thefts because its a theft from an hgv. A theft is a theft, regardless of its location. It seems to be the "hgv " part some cops are unsure of. Because of my background as a driver, I understand how frustrating it is to be the victim of a theft from an hgv. Its not a lack of commitment from the officers, quite the opposite but I can understand how some cops find it difficult to deal with. Hgv theft has its own unique MO 's and can be quite daunting if you’ve never had to deal with it before. What I can say is that I’ve never heard a cop say "its only a lorry "- they show the same level of commitment dealing with theft from an hgv as they show when dealing with any other theft.
Hope this is a bit clearer…
And its not 30k,its 36k. The pay scales are on most force websites…

Phil, just to clear things up
Just like to point out that all starting PC’s, like myself and Joe, are on £23k starting wage. For us to earn nearly £30k we would have to be in the job coming on 8-10 years.

Just like to point out, it is an on going discussion on this forum about truckers wanting £600 - £800 a week take home. So compare that to a soldier
