but to even consider overtaking on chevrons with a cop behind you… its just daft!Where does it say you can’t drive on chevrons (unless it incorporates a solid white line)?
Try highway code rule 130.

Any tractor drivers care to explaine?
Well most who have driven a tractor will pull over when they can to tell cars/vans/lorries pass.
It’s drilled into you if you work & use agricultural machinery.
Sadly some road users think the own ALL roads.
DC in the CSI department has emailed me saying that a investigation in to this matter has started

Rule 130
Areas of white diagonal stripes or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.
If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.
If the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency.
Doesn’t say you can’t enter it!!!
