Brace yourself Toby (and a few others on here), because I am about to tell you something that you might find hard to accept.
And it’s this: For many people there is a life outside of the work-home-eat-bed-work cycle, and for significant numbers of them this “life” involves traveling to/from locations away from their homes, sometimes at night, in order to enjoy what scientists call “social interaction with other human beings”. For most of these people there is no worry about getting sufficient sleep because they are not obliged to get up in the middle of the night just so that they can start work at some stupid time in order to spend 13-15 hours sat in a metal box staring through the windscreen. For them, “work” is something that is done within a roughly 8 hour period between 9am and 5pm and the rest of the day (and night) they are free to do whatever they wish.
Maybe some of the car drivers would rather drive round aimlessly than read some of the “posts” on here lol

Mind blown.

 There is a reason for every journey otherwise they wouldn’t be thereI never go out in the car unless there is a reason. I’ve never once thought I’ll get out of bed and nip 2 motorway junctions and back to to ■■■■ off a lorry driver just for the sake of it. I have an excellent sense of humour but even that wouldn’t be funny - or in my mind sane!

the irony of sitting in a traffic jam complaining at all the traffic
Lol. Ive always thought that, esp when I read people whinging at being at a concert somewhere then complaining of the traffic to get out. The irony of whinging about the volume of traffic will being in their car at the time and part of the problem is totally lost on them!

Contender for the most pointless & whiny threads of the year Toby!Wonder if we (TruckNet) could send a team of whingers and whiners to the next olympics. . . Hate to say it, but even I could be in with a shout. . .Maybe form a relay team with Juddian on “Auto-Box” whinging,. . . team up with young Evil8Beezle on whining about those who live in the far north. . (north of Winchester). And there`s a huge choice of world-class whingers out there for Pro, AND Anti, EuroLand moaning. I love being British !
And also a team of agency limpers to the paralympics!!!
Wind yer necks in, it’s only banter
Can I represent us in the “starting a fight in an empty phone box” event?
I reckon id bring home the gold
I’ve always regularly gone out just for a drive, don’t do it so often now I drive for a living, but still do occasionally. Tend to stick to back roads when I do though and avoid any motorways or any road that may get busy.

Having a 24 hours economy, people start and finish work around the clock.
So people going to and from work, doing their shopping because they don’t work from 9 - 17:00 hrs.
There is not really a defined rush hour anymore.
This is the future, this is what they call improvement (not), but at least we can get our crisps at 2 o’clock in the morning.
Where is the time gone, when shops were closed from 12 o’clock Saturday afternoon until Monday morning, when the was no shops open at night.
And drivers worked much more sociable hours, because products didn’t need to be there the next day.
We will see much more half empty vehicles on the road, as the public and companies want same day delivery.
So you don’t even get a chance to combine loads to create a full load.
too many learner drivers on the road as well, particularly during the day when you deliver to industrial estates and at least a half dozen learners are there getting in your way, doing three point turns, the reverse exercise, etc,in my time you could fail your test for not making progress, the instructors don’t seem to give a ■■■■ about that anymore,so annoying, industrial estates are supposed to be private land[a majority anyway] yet driving instructors still bring their pupils onto them.

When you were learning to drive I bet on more than one occasion YOU were in someones way when they were trying to get on. Everyone has to learn somewhere so give them a break.

Don’t you dare bring logic and rational thinking into this, get back in your phone box!

You can still fail for not making progress, but most learners aren’t confident enough to get to that speed straight away so build up to it, hence some drive slowly, how much time does a turn in the road really take, less than a minute in most cases. People need to learn, just like we all did.

wasn’t so busy in 1980, as I said too many on the road now
Toby, the answer is obvious. They are all on the way home after having dinner with the local mayor!

Half the wagons on the road are empty maybe there blocking the roads for others
“Single occupancy” of a car should be taxed at a higher rate - if you wish to use the car on your own for anything else other than to and from an actual real job.
I reckon a lot of them are on their way to or from a chattering class meeting (if your to the right of politics) or to the latest momentum parade (if you’re a champagne socialist, wear a mask, and stand more to the left)
If you’re the party leader, you’ll be on foot (if you’re right) and sitting on the floor (if your wrong/left)
If your politics is “center” You won’t be alone, but will have a minibus with 8 other bods in it to pick you up.

So because it was quieter in 1980 and you were able to learn all is fine but now youre a driver everyone else should be told to wait so they dont hold you up?
Youre being rather unreasonable to those unfortunate enough to want to learn to drive in this day and age.
Has anyone noticed that in a single occupancy car, you are most likely to see someone on their phone when they shouldn’t be at all whilst driving?
…See a car with a family, or even an old couple in it - and neither will be on the phone, despite the passenger being fully legally able to do thus.
“Illegal use of phone” I suggest is joined at the hip with “Single Driver occupancy of a private light vehicle”.
There is a great opportunity akin to the dart charge or London congestion charge here…
You can enforce the paying of a “Single occupancy” tax (for which their is a precedent - Hotel Occupancy!) which if not paid, will be lumped up as a fine for also being on the phone at the wheel, captured by the same APNR camera network that is now quite extensive in this country.
Funny how so little comment is made about the way cameras proliferated under the 13 year Labour rule…!
Funny how neither Labour nor Tory nor Libdem talk about “Wanting to roll back our surveillance society” we now live in.
If we’ve gotta live with it now - then bloody well keep going!
