Point me in the right direction!

Can anyone please point me in the right direction. Ill keep it short and sweet.

Newly qualified driver, a small amount of expierience.

Does any one know of any companys in and around manchester that will take on a new driver with some expierience? I would much rather work for a company than an agency.

At the moment I am working for agency and have done a couple of days in trafford park driving. The company is moving over to runcorn though, now i am willing to go over to runcorn just to get the expirience, but i would much prefer to work more local to home, ill save a fortune on fuel!

Plus working on agency as you all know is just too unstable really, the job I am on is temp to perm and seems pretty decent. But now im not definatly working again until the 11th of dec, as the 2 days i have just done were training. They said they may have some more for me but i dont like words like may, should and possibly! Like i say i just want to work for a local company really.

Can you suggest any names for me to get on the blower to?

Im sick of just seeing agency names on the jobsite as well! there must be a few companys willing!

Nobby’s Dressingtable will take on new qualified drivers

don’t know where the nearest depot would be though

I spoke to them before and the receptionist said they have nothing at the moment. When i got off the phone it dawned on me i think she may have thought i was an agency tauting for work!

There is one in Trafford Park as far as I am aware! Might call them again tomorrow.

They also have a place in Leigh .

if you do call them again, FFS, don’t mention agencies

you could also try some smaller hauliers, as has been posted on here before, get a bag packed in your car, you might get somewhere and they need a load moving there and then

are you looking for a day job or a tramping job?

that all counts as to who to go to for a job

I am looking for everything bar tramping. Its class 2 im looking for as well!

I didnt mention agency at all! but i said “do you know when there may be positions available” (after i asked if there was any jobs) she hesitated and then said “we have no intensions of recruiting anytime soon” nevermind!

Personally i’d get straight on class 1, much more work about on artics. You may have to lie, just stretch the truth abit, if you didnt drive for the first 6months of having your license dont tell them that, just say, “i was driving the day after, already had a job lined up” etc. Cowboy outfits should take you on, if people tell you so an so is an ■■■■■■■■ to work for, their likely to have a high turnover of staff and chances are they’ll take anyone they can get.

Best bet for Norberts is to try head office at Lodge Farm in Northampton. Let them know that you are willing to work Zero Hours to start off with and they should find a depot near you. Leigh will be your local depot IIRC with Trafford Park and Skelmersdale being ND traffic offices at customer sites.

ND run a lot more artics than they do rigids though.

Robert Wisemen near to Trafford park take on new drivers. Either be on Class 1 trunking, or Class 2 doing shops. Give them a bell as they are taking on.

Swains??

Try nortons in trafford park there on scrap work they run class 1 and 2 trucks

 A.K. Worthington run both Artic & Rigid curtainsiders from their place in Trafford Park…

*** We’ve said it loads of times over the years on this forum:

Go and knock on their doors - Speak to someone face to face, this shows you to have a bit more initiative than the other 2 dozen drivers looking for a start who phoned or e.mailed them yesterday, the 2 dozen today and the 2 dozen tomorrow, etc.

A Sunday morning is always a good time to drive around your local industrial estates, look through the gates and fences to see who runs the lorry fleets.
Not just haulage operations either,-timber/builders merchants, food wholesalers, engineers supplies, parcel delivery, waste disposal, furniture sales and manufacturers etc etc.
The fleet is usually all back home at base at this one time in the week.Write yourself a list and go back and ask to speak to the Transport manager when visiting them on Monday morning…

Good Luck :sunglasses:

Phoned them the other day they said they had stopped taking applications and just email a CV over, and they will ‘keep it on record’

Id love to get straight on class one. But that will have to be next year now to do that test. (due to crimbo finances!)

It really will be money well spent, if you get on with a company they mite get you going on rigids first then one day someone will be off sick and you’ll be the only one able to drive it.

Have you tried any builders merchants, thats where i started, there good because they’ll have vans, 7.5ts, rigids and maybe an artic so you mite be able to work your way up. I gained alot of experience there, much more than just doing general, they throw as much on as possible and because its a flat or drop side you have to strap everything really well. You’ll also get a crane ticket and possibly forklift.

Good luck and dont give up trying just because its christmas, i called up for a job a week before christmas and started in january (this year).

Swains 01617033000 @ Astley A580

Well after a really unsuccessful day of calling comapanys i feel a little disheartened really. No where appears to be recruiting at the moment and advised that i send a CV in.

Really dont want to send CV’s in as i know they will just get tossed to one side as i have no experience and my CV is pretty blank in regards to driving jobs. SIGH!

Is this normal this close to christmas? As personally i would have thought it would have been all hands on deck at the moment.

I must have made 100 calls today. typed in manchester road haulage/logistics in on google maps and it brought up all of the local companys.

Eurgh i just want to work. I dont care if i do nights days trunking multidrop etc I just need a full time permanent job!

Try tramping then, you may have to travel a little further to get to work but you should save fuel by not commuting every day.

What about containers on 0 hours? I know boxes go quiet at this time of year… But you might get that golden phone call one of these days?
