Friday is Poets day in the UK (P*** Off Early Tomorrow’s Saturday).
Like most of you, I switch my tacho to break when I’m really doing other work & put that little bit extra into an early finish on Poets Day. I’m usually back in the yard for 3ish & on my way home for 4pm.
This morning I picked up my paperwork & was astonished to see a few extra drops, 3 more than usual, which would take me well over my 4pm finish. Big Boss is on holiday see, & little ■■■■, whoops sorry, little boss is looking to impress.
Some people might get a ‘kick’ out of being trusted to have their own set of keys to the yard, makes them feel all important & trusted, I’ve always refused a set, one of my golden rules alongside throwing ALL tools out of the truck.
On most days the yard is usually empty & locked up bang on 1 minute past 5. On Poets day, especially with the Big Boss off on his jollies, it would almost certainly be smack bang on 5.
So knowing that my early finish was impossible, I took my breaks as normal & plodded around at my usual sedate pace, got back in the yard for 5.30pm .
Little ■■■■, whoops sorry, little boss can barely contain his anger at having to wait around to lock up after me. Despite biting my nose off to spite my face, I hope he’s learned a very valuable lesson.

Good on ya! Its odd, unlike most other industries, i find when the boss is off in this game it always goes ■■■■ up and you end up having to work harder doing the ■■■■ work because the planner is passing all the good work to his mate, instead of it being shared out in a fairish way.
Up at the APC hub in the small hours waiting to load…good thing about poets day is that the roads are quieter for those of us out on the road all night on Friday!!!
