POA messing with driving time

I had a problem the other day that ended up loosing me half an hour as I didn’t want to get a fine. Heres what happened

45ish mins driving get to my first drop 50 mins early
15mins break
30mins POA
I forgot that POA messes with driving time and got to 3:20 hours when I suddenly remembered from reading it on here somewhere and found somewhere to take my 30 min break to start my next 4.5 hours
So another 3:30 driving (4:15 total)
30 mins break
So a total of 45 mins breaks taken in the correct way after over 4 hours driving. Should be fine.
I hit the road but the tacho is still reading over 3 hours driving and not reseting back to 00:01
Go round the block 10 mins driving (4:25 total I think) sweating at this point as my goal is to go a year without vosa telling me off.
Stop another 30 mins break just to be on the safe side. Tried to phone someone who could tell me weather ignoring the tacho as I know that I have had my breaks would be OK but they never got back to me.

So, why did the tacho not start the next chunk of driving time?

If I had ignored it and not had another 30 mins break would it have recorded an infraction?

If it did record one would I have been able to do a print out and show it to Mr Vosa and get out of it by telling him whoever wrote the code for the digi tacho boxes must have been living in the 80s when computer tech was new as my phone would be able to handle such a simple task without getting it all messed up?

Personally I don’t think I’m ever going to use POA again as I just can’t be bothered with the hastle.

Also who the hell thought it’d be a good idea for POA to mess with driving time? Who ever wrote the code is an idiot! I don’t care if its not PC to say it, they are.

I’ll stop ranting out loud now… :imp: :imp: :imp:

At this point the tachograph would have wrongly reset the driving time on the display.

Because the tachograph had already wrongly reset the driving time it would treat this as the first part of a split driving break so would not reset the driving time on the display.

Legally though your driving time would be reset at this point.

It is fine and legal but the tachograph didn’t know that.

The tachograph would treat this as the second part of a split driving break and wrongly reset the driving time on the display, in actual fact it was the first part of a split driving break.

In reality at this point you’d done about 10 minutes driving with a 30 minute break and had another four hours twenty minutes driving left before needing another 30 minute break

Explained above.

Good idea, if you get paid for break it’s generally best to use break instead of POA.
There are times when POA can be useful and in my opinion it should be used only on those occasions if possible.

The tachograph manufacturers wrote the code but only because that’s the way the EU commission have said the tachograph should work so blame the EU.

As Tacho above has explained but in reality there is nothing wrong with using POA as long as you understand it and work with it accordingly .

There’s nothing wrong with using POA, but unless there’s a good reason to use it there’s no point in messing up the driving time shown on the tachograph display.

But by using break all the time can mess with your breaks and when you have to use them , that’s all I was saying …

Just leave it on other work :stuck_out_tongue: even if that work is sleeping in your cab

Seriously though, if I’d ignored the display and just continued without the last 30 min break would I have been fine next time I saw Mr Vosa?

Thx for the pm beanie. Very good to know

Also, why are the people who run the EU so dum?!?! Or is this a planned revenue source? If Microsoft brought out a piece of software that was so floored at such a basic level you’d never hear the end of it till it was fixed

I think you’d done 10 minutes driving since the 30 minute break which legally reset the driving time, so without the last 30 minute break you would not have got an infringement unless you did more than 4 hours twenty minutes driving on top of the ten minutes driving you’d already done.

They did and they called it Windows 8 :stuck_out_tongue:

Lol. Thanks tacho. I’m so glad your on here to inform us newbies :sunglasses:
