So last night was told Birmingham for today, which us only 40 miles away if that. I don’t like locals, I don’t like Birmingham or the Black Country for that matter either. I didn’t like seeing my paperwork and seeing I had 11 drops throughout Birmingham and the Black Country. I didn’t like the way it was 16plts and 7.5t loaded (suspiciously rigid sized planning…) and I didn’t like the look of some of the drops.
But fair play I thought I’ll crack on, do my bit of local of work and I’ve actually enjoyed it
Daft as it sounds I think you two have hit the nail on the head about why I’ve enjoyed it - very little waiting, one or two pallets here and there so no extended tips, small companies that know what they ordered.
It’s been a nice change rather than being left to rot in another RDC.
Went in last night expecing a 13 hour+ shift, but got a cushy 9 hour jolly shuttling around within half-hour of my yard tipping out at a few local RDCs. Paid for 12! I was pleasantly surprised.

We k+n Reading, how loverlly for you, I’m at a cold storage place in Easton, waiting as usual…
You’re lucky it’s not my shunting week this week or you’d be waiting a lot longer. Or at least 'til you got yer hand in yer pocket at the coffee machine!

I’m a poor fridge driver, just scraping by, i can’t afford coffee from machines, do you know how much a wild bean coffee is these days, I’ll have to drink Costa packet soon.

Anyone else been pleasantly surprised today?
Yes, had a “DPF full” error last friday morning and had to wait for a mechanic. He was supposed to come between 10 and 11 (so I was realistically expecting him after 13:00) but he came after only about 40 mins - nice surprise nr. 1; while waiting for him I read up on DPF errors and found out that if it’s a red warning then the filter has gone and has to be replaced so I was expecting him to say “Welp, can’t fix that, mate” and call for a recovery truck and wait again…He came, plugged in a giant scanner into the ODB port and did a forced manual filter regen (something I had tried to do myself via the truck interface but it was locked out for whatever reason); another 40 mins later and I was good to go - pleasant surprise nr.2; finished my day an hour early but still with plenty of hours on the clock for a decent pay - nr.3; later got a call from the agency for an early shift Sat. morning at 14.50 p/h (hey, class 2…) - all in all, had a good day

Yeah me! Got to Kuehne & Nagel in Reading to be told “got no room in the freezer mate, gonna be 3 or 4 hours 'till we tip you”
Thank you, had a snooze, cleaned the truck, watched some Netflix, verbally jousted with Darkside and Cookiemonster. Life is good
Not like the heart attack/‘’ got to keep it lit’’ crew then , who get stressed out if they have to wait more than 5 minutes AND who are on hourly pay.
I’m exactly the same, ‘…‘Ooh it’ll be a couple of hours drive at least’’ then see the surprise on their face when you say ‘‘Not a prob mate, take as long as you want’’
I laugh at these stresshead drivers champing at the bit waiting to get tipped, and carrying out their recipe for their first early heart attack, while I lie in bunk, feet on wheel reading my book or as you say winding up some twonk on here. (maybe not darkside )
You’'re right life CAN be good sometimes as a driver , but some are too stupid, and too busy stressing out to see it.
My pleasant surprise this week, parked up in a good place, ordered my meal in the pub, saw the special offer on of £1.80 a pint , and enjoyed a couple in the beer garden in the sun.
(Yep, you’re right Maost,…life (and tramping) can be good, but ffs don’t tell the stressheads in their lay bys. )

Usually if you show you’re not bothered by the wait after about 30 minutes they’ll get you tipped and away a lot quicker

We’re singing from the same hymn sheet here bud! Many years ago I decided that of all the things I may die from stress wasn’t gonna be one of them. I deliver frozen tat, not blood or transplant organs so therefore have no need to teararse around at Mach 2 with my hair on fire.
Last week one of our office ship(t)weasels said to me “why you park after 9 hours work? You can work much 15 hours”. My response was “I parked after 9 hours work 'cos I got bored, it was a nice day with a nearby beer garden, and more importantly because I could” I then added “on the subject of I “can” work 15 hours, well you CAN work 24 but you bloody well don’t!”

I’m gonna use that one.
If you sound anymore on here like me, YOU’LL be getting Nightline latching on to YOU,.wanting to be YOUR best mate.
(You’re welcome to him btw )

Yeah I’ve found this too. Cause a scene and you’ll pay for it, be non-fussed and generally chilled and it’s normally easy street…
