Pleasant surprise

Tipped Spalding this morning, on the bay next to me was a Dutch registered motor. I said hello to the driver and was pleasantly surprised to find that he was a Dutch man, cloggs an all!! We then proceeded to have a friendly chat about the usual rubbish  . It was like going back in time when most Dutch motors were driven by Dutch men, always friendly and happy to help.

We had a Dutch motor turned up at ours the other week, a Dutchman driving, I mentioned it’s unusual to see that nowadays, he said his boss wouldn’t employ foreign drivers, he’d rather sell up than do so.

Had the similar experience in Hatfield a few months ago, I watched the Guy onto the bay next to Me (on his blindside) he thanked Me, I replied with ā€œs**t you a Dutchmanā€ he said ā€œYa strange on Dutch truckā€. Great chat for an hour or so  The Dutch really are the best, always were

How far do you go, I know of a UK firm who wont employ foreigners, females or non whites.

When I used to shunt. We had heebinks in most days. As far as I can remember. All Dutch. Always polite and professional.

Conversation in Holland, ā€œTipped in Spalding today saw a British truck and got talking. He was English. He was actually English…Didn’t stop moaning for two hours [FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE]ā€

I got stopped on the M1 outside Milton Keynes once, driving a 52-plate MAN with an old-style tacho for a book and cloth recycling company. The inspector first went to my left window, despite it being a British registered truck. He then came round the driver’s side and after hellos he said it was unusual to see a British truck with a British driver these days. (I’ve had that from employers as well – the boss at one company I work for quite a lot, first time I went in there, was surprised to hear a British accent.)

I was on Beaconsfield one night paying for my parking and a Dutchman came speaking to me asking about paying. He was off his face!!! Not sure if he’d been drinking or smoking something, and not sure how long he’d been there (first 3 hours free there,) but God it scared me that he was in charge of a 44t motor.

Proper friendly though. And tried his best to speak perfect English.

You gotta be so careful with that Paul. Unless he stunk of drink or weed there’s every possibility that he may have had a medical condition. Iirc the police got into serious bother for arresting and locking up a driver who appeared ā€œoff his faceā€ but turned out to be hypoglycaemic or something like that.

Didn’t go close enough to him to find out, was every chance he’d have fallen on me, lol

or you could look at the other way round with positive discrimination that has been going on years where certain employers ā€˜welcome’ application from groups they are under represented with or in English if your white and someone is from a.n.other you have no chance of getting the job.

its time employers went back to just picking the best person for the role irrespective of race, gender or anything else our wonderful union of Europe can think up.

I agree and lets be honest, not all Brits are good drivers and are suitable for the job - HGV driver. From comments in the forum I found out that many Brits are not good drivers, can’t reverse, take their driving test in auto truck with reverse camera etc., claiming all Eastern European are buying their licences on the black market. Which is total nonsense.
I’m EE driver doing my school at the moment, had to pass psychological test(like for gun permit)+ reaction time test on a machine in order to start training, its required for cat. C, I’m forced by law to train on manual(doing it on Man 18.272, gearbox 4 over 4) and can’t take C+E straight away like you in UK, again by law I need to hold C licence for minimum of 1 year to be eligible to apply for C+E.
Also to apply for cat. D for example I have to have hold cat. C for minimum of 2 years, not like in UK B+provisional D.
So lets stop putting all drivers under one belt. And lets focus on employers attitude for once…

…or Brits then… :stuck_out_tongue:

To be honest after the day I’m having today they can Have them

Dolph! :sunglasses: I’d rather be abroad working with edept professional drivers who know what they’re doing too! :grimacing: unfortunately the job over here in good old BLIGHTY has been dumbed down that much, numbskulls CAN do it! :unamused: but I blame these " chase , chase logistics firms " for that as well :open_mouth: welcome to England, most English people " speeky no engleeeesh either! :grimacing: more camaraderie abroad twenty years ago, now it’s " I’m alright jack! Ciao for now! " too many lazy bar stewards but " THAT’s WHAT THE JOB HAS BECOME ! " :imp: because of faceless bean counting accountants. :smiling_imp: rule brittania, chocks away old beam! smile if you’re HAPPY

to be fair I had a driver moan today as the company he is at didn’t ā€˜plan’ his break :open_mouth:

he genuinely seemed shocked when I said take it when you need it :open_mouth:

Euro trucking is gonna be ā€œfunā€, judging by your comments. I can’t imagine that a driver will expect from his company to plan his breaks. This is just… :open_mouth: , what is next they have to call him and tell him when is time for peeing :unamused:
Who is going to keep check on the weight of the load, straps, low bridges, truck restriction…if he thinks the company has to.

Again, I don’t want to sound rude, but I’m glad I learned trucking in US.
