Playing with your phone

If the driver admitted he had been using the phone at the time then there was no need for proof.

And your gonna hold your hands up to it straight away are ya?? :unamused:

I don’t use a phone whilst I’m driving so I can’t answer your question.

I don’t have hands free so when it rings I do not answer at all and only check when I am safely parked up,one part of me says it’s because I don’t want to kill or seriously injure anyone, the other part is purely selfish and that is I don’t fancy doing a ten stretch if I did kill someone

Same. If it’s important, they’ll leave a message and I’ll check when I’m pulled over on a break, no message/ text, no call back. As for Face ache and the like, don’t do that out the house.

I phones are the worst ■■■■■■■ thing ever invented

any smartphone is a bugger to use when driving and trying to txt…bring back the old nokia brick…

It’s a pandemic.

With a lot of companies now, drivers are literally risking instant dismissal for the sake of checking Facebook… :unamused:

I wonder if this is just one of the consequences of the race to the bottom ■■?

Being dismissed from a long hour, modestly/poorly paid position is not so scary really.

The gypsy lifestyle where you badly treated by most deliveries and collections and even turn into a complete leper when it comes to finding a parking place for more than 2 hours is not highly sought after.

Generally it’s not anymore the better respected, better paid profession it once was is it and thus the caliber of person at wheel is going south.

Unfortunately that calibre of person cannot recognise a problem with phone entertainment at the wheel no more the one of a 13 foot bridge.

The real joke is the best the DVSA guy could come up with after two hours of searching is one bolt with a slightly different note on his hammer/tuning fork for which he will generate much paper work and tut-tutting while hundreds text and face book their merry way on the other side of the fence.

The authorities really have their finger on the pulse. They know where the real threats to road safety are and where to apply their well financed resources.

“Now drive I know it was chaos in Calais and you eventually got past the strikers and migrants with lorry and limbs still in tact but your hours were up when you hit Dover. The fact that there was not one single parking place anywhere near Dover is your problem so now under regulation blah blan bla …”.

There are many posts on here discussing phone use at the wheel. I’ve said before that it’s pandemic. I’m really not one for stitching drivers up but I’m sorry, on this issue, any driver caught watching videos on his phone or face booking needs to lose their license.

Let me ask the driver using his phone this question: your wife and loved ones are taken out by the clown behind them whilst he’s on his phone, what would your response be?

There was a high profile case only a few weeks ago where a mother and her kids were killed when an agency driver ploughed into them.

I’ll say it again as I’ve said before, we have got to condemn this practice and come down seriously hard on these brain dead arrogant tossers!!

Yes, I agree. Agency drivers are a menace…

Agreed, it’s proper hard to text even the simplest thing on this phone I’ve got while driving.

I could batter out an essay while drinking coffee and driving in the days of the 3310.

And therein lies a large part of the issue .

Flippant remarks about what used to be done , but has now become so much of a habit , one you cannot break out of .
You both mention how it has become harder to text , but rather than say stuff that , will reply later , still carry on as before .

What could possibly go wrong :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused:

nothing has went wrong with me sofar…ive txtd myself to death whilst driving since they invented mobiles, and quite happy and comfortable making and taking calls etc…never had the slightest problem near miss or other kind of whoopsie…theres plenty who are an accident waiting to happen doing nothing but driving,so who cares…its not going to change unless the goverment clamp down with some ott draconian penalties. same as seatbelts…depending on where im going il wear a belt in the car,but mostly dont bother…seldom wear one in the truck, but quite often wear one abroad…peekaboo curtains and a double sim card phone have their uses.you just have to go with the flow…as previously said, you coud batter out a sermon with almst no mistakes on the old type mobiles…now you need to watch what your doing and its a bit more difficult…but practice makes perfect…

The world is full of optimists which is a very dangerous thing. The “It’ll never happen to me” syndrome.
