Thanks for posting these top pics Truckerash which bring back memories of when i was a kid living in mill st colnbrook in the 70s and hanging around in there yard ie tan house farm owned by the swanstons, link to more PIE and P&E stuff here and a post i made 4yrs ago viewtopic.php?f=35&t=15072
i also worked for jimmy for a while not on continental but other fun stuff like a saturday morning in the yard i was asked can i take the 111 with the 22rb allredeay on it to Bedford some where out to the left of i think Sandy in the sticks where they used to do them up like a shot being young in my 20s i said yes and was heading for the 111 and was told whoa not yet this afternoon when nobody about (ministry) no movement order and it was a wide track one so i had to wait to be the pilot of my big 111 which i did with out problems and it was self unload on my own over the side when i got there the good old days EH
I have just found some photos given to me by Bob Poggianni (he of āthe scudā Scammell S26 & Astran fame) a few years ago.
IIFC; He told me he worked for Plant & Engineering of Colnbrook in they early days.
He had this day cab Scania 110 YRP 142J, doing mostly Italian work.
Judging by these photos (sorry about the quality; they were pretty rough to begin with) the old 110 was worked to death!! Lovely to see how the job was done though. These pics taken in 1973 !
Ready to roll; Cannock to Milan. Unit looks nice and tidy. Love the bucket. Check out the āmodifiedā rear wheel arches!
Almost there; Mont Blanc 1973.
Another heavy jobā¦wheel arches and bucket still in tact.
Parked in Italy;The Coles crane looks a tadge heavy! Wheel arches now removed. And is it my imaginationā¦or is the rear tyre on the trailer missing?..
A well deserved ārestā for the 110; A rare tilt job and parked up for the weekend?
Actually, no! The old girl had given up and was waiting to be piggy-backed home!
Back at the Blanc.
A couple more jobs for Bob using the other Scania UPP 980J. Note; Bucket transfered to this unit.
I take it it wasnt nessessary to chain anything down in the 70ās!
These 2 dumpers look SO heavy!
The end of the road for the 110. Poor old girl; even the roof beacon looks knackered!
A couple of my own pics taken in the 80ās.
Nice play on words on the old P.I.E trailer.
Bridge beam at the ānewā A45 Bedford Road flyover Northampton.
Anyone else got any pics / stories on P&E ?
Great pictures.Hardy men,as others,with no cot in the old 110.Thanks for posting.
Canāt recall if Poggi said he worked for himself before he joined P&E; Or if he left to set up on his own. I know he always did P&E work.
Few more of his lovely pics;
Note the trade mark wheel arch removal.
He bought this 110 from Royal Oak as a replacement for his green G reg;
Running with P&E F88 to Italy.
Anyone recognise the men?..But more importantly; What about the truckā ā ? That reg is familiarā¦

Got any Pictures the 8 wheeler Ash ? Bubs ?.
Funny thing about the Beams for the A45 I remember is we were routed via Kimbolton .!!!.
Yes the same kimbolton that has a sign saying no car transporters due to the sharp left and right turns in the village.
No transporters but 80" beams no problem, great fun with a donkey engine rear steer dolly.
We needed the Cafe on the west side on the way out.
