Planning a journey from Aberdeen to London

Hi,

I have my first job coming up. I have to deliver a 7.5t truck from North Aberdeen to the Center of London.

The lorry has to be in London for Thursday morning. Thing is I have no idea how long this is going to take!

I have not driven south of the border for nearly 10 years and am unfamiliar with how long it takes to get through the traffic.

Can anyone suggest how long this might take, and where would be good to stop?

Cheers

I just put Aberdeen in to my sat nav (from Milton Keynes) & it says 10 hours, so add another 1.5 to 2 hours & it’ll be at least 12 hours driving.
Personally, I’d do 9+ hours on day one, should get you to Birmingham, then start around 8am & poodle into London after 10.
Where are you going in London ?

That is what I was thinking, shoot for 9 hours on day one, get down to Birmingham then make my way into the city after rush hour.

I need to get to Clapham Common SW4. Its been 20 years since I drove in London, hope I don’t get caught up in any of the emmission zones!

Think you can check online for that

Just take into account all the road works south of the border & extra traffic

Depends how old your motor is tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-em … s-affected
If it’s not LEZ Compliant it’ll cost you £200 [emoji29]

Bottom of the M1, 3rd exit/under the bridge, 1st exit onto the A5 & straight through, Park Lane to Victoria over Vauxhall Bridge, then turn right & follow the river along Nine Elms Rd, puts you in the Clapham Junction Area. Allow a good hour from the M1.

The roadworks along the M6 & M1 can be a nightmare but only usually during rush hours, the M6 north of Birmingham is always sticky, but if your made of money you could use the Toll (can’t believe I just advised that !) or check the highways website for Motorway Traffic Flow as you drive past J16 & you could come off at 15 & use the A50 to the M1/J24 or23A.

Just to add, I was down the M1 near the M25 today, (Hatfield) & the traffic on the M1 wasn’t too bad between J12 & J8 at 07.00 this morning, but that’s because the Sprogs are still off, you should be ok because they don’t start going back until next week.

Do it on a Sprog Day & it can take you hours !!!

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the tips! It’s a new wagon (a year old) so from the calculator I don’t need to worry about the LEZ! The kids are back in school up here, I had forgotten then were still off down south

Since I want to have plenty of time on Thursday to get into Clapham for 12 I will aim to be near Oxford Wednesday night and head in on the M4. The tube strike has been cancelled so it looks like the traffic will be ‘normal’!

Money is not an issue so I might see about the toll road if time is looking tight on Wednesday.

Cheers!
