Agree i wont put up with that crap ,tip it or i get keys and pull off !

They would probably want you out of there pretty sharpish if you did that.

Oh right sir we shall bow down to to these mortals and wait forever more……

15 hour spread ,no wonder young ones and anybody with half a brain does not want to drive a truck, mind you It could be 24 hours if you count sleeping(on guard duty)on some waste land .

What in gods name made us get in to this game ,must of been mad :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the job I just don’t think that what is involved appeals to young ones anymore

There are plenty of jobs that don’t require sitting in an RDC for hours and sleeping out all week. Trouble is there are too many glory boys who’ll accept the above crap if it means driving a bling mobile. I’d rather drive an old dusty tipper with no added tat and go home every evening. In my company vehicle. :grimacing:

you can design and print off an official looking form saying that any planned job which entails more than 10 hours incurs a hundred pound surcharge. Ask the clerk to sign it. No need to read it. It’s just a formality.

I am currently in trouble at work over this issue. Got asked to tip a Tesco Extra at Irlam the other day. After a drive up from Warrington to Middlesbrough, and then down to Goole.

Told the planner that this would mean a probable 13.5/14 hour working day, and I was tired, which meant the request was unreasonable. They reckoned it was reasonable.

I refused to do it and brought the trailer back to the depot for a night man to take.

Well go do something else then. You and your whinge whinge whinge about EVERYTHING hgv cronies all love to bang on about the great money to be had stacking shelves in Tesco so why not go do that instead of coming on here all the time and ■■■■■■■ moaning.

Planners could plan my day for 20 hours if they wanted it makes no difference. Wherever I am at least 1 hour before my time runs out im gone due to the fact im planning on parking up for the evening.

If they give me a job that may cut it fine they will be warned beforehand but from day one they know I will pull out of anywhere before running out of hours. RDC’s are a little trickier but give the goods in fair warning and the option for me to return in the morning normally acheives a quick tip.

If wanting to be home Friday I warn the planners early I only have a 13 hour day (I will in fact have a 15 but thats my business).
In the end all we as drivers have to do is stay within the law, its our licence after all and if the planners know you cant be messed about from day one life is so much easier.

That said if asked nicely I may chance the odd risky job but to this day I have never received a medal or payrise for doing so.

Well said mate.

We have a run that’s planned for 4 x 14.5 hour shifts with 4 split daily rests. You can do over a grand a week in on it though so who cares. If you want the cash it’s there, some of the lads are on it all the time.
