Plain white tesco trailers

im assuming plenty of drivers have noticed the newest trailers are plain white and most, myself included naturally assumed it was something to do with resale values ie a trailer which has aged with someones livery on it does not look very tidy once the livery has been removed but is still the bright original colour underneath the names and logos. we would be wrong :exclamation:

the reason tesco have chosen plain white is simply an illusion so that joe public doesnt sit there thinking ‘oh look, there goes ANOTHER tesco truck’. the plain white trailers are to fool the public into thinking there are fewer tesco trucks on the road than is actually the case

i didnt believe this when i got told last night

I used to sub for Tesco, pre Eddie Stobart & they had a buch of plain blue & red tautliners, I was told that same thing when I asked why they were plain, they did’nt want their customers going to Asda etc because they’d been held up by a Tesco lorry, which make sense, kind of, until you see the unit pulling it has Tesco plastered all over it :unamused:

I guess it’s different now with Eddie pulling a lot of their trailers, then Tesco customers are being held up by Eddie lorries & the public don’t mind that, everyone loves Eddie :sunglasses:

Sure I read that same train of thought on biglorryblog a few weeks ago too.
Another incidental benefit is that plain white reefers work a lot more efficiently (and therefore use less fuel, plus environmental benefits doo-dah blah, blah) than those painted in dark clours, such as Tesco’s dark blue, as the white reflects heat from the sun rather than soaking it up, like a dark clour would.

Unmarked or not you can still spot them a mile away, the rear end of the trailer is so distinctive.

Thats another good reason, I’m read something about Pulleyns of Reading saving a fortune on fridge diesel when they switched the colour of their fridges from blue to silver. My company has some black fridges & they really work hard when it’s in the 40s, they look bloody good though as you can see from the picture by my name, if you’ve got really good eyes

the 616s went into service in december and are all plain white. the 615s and 614s are a bit older but have adverts all over them for tesco mobile, bosch services etc etc etc. they are all white trailers too. it is only the very latest ones that are white and unmarked

On about white trailers, vehicles, this sort of livery was used in northern ireland to service MOD contracts so i was told, just so no one on the outside knew who were delivering to MOD sites.
Or is that BS from an RDC waiting room lol.

Is he pointing at you nickyboy

It’s mainly to fool the public in to thinking Tesco don’t have as many trucks polluting the environment as they do have. Most people would miss the little “Tesco” on the side of the unit and all the unmarked trailers pulled by Eddie would have the pollution portioned to him instead.

when i worked with them (over 6 years ago) we were told that the new trailers coming on line (609 +610’s) would be white because …

A… it will save them x millions of £££s in painting them etc…

B… they can rent out the space on the side of the trailers to advertising agencies , again generating many more £££££s for tesco.

the advertising thing started right away at the time advertising jeep cherokees and i remember we had a lot of trailers advertising
the DVD release of Master and Commander , the Russell Crowe film .

it wasnt till the 611-612’s came online that we started seeing all white trailers

probably the simplest answer why theyre plain white is the cost imagine how much it cost to have a new trailer logod up not to mention the cost of de-logoing at the end of lease contract, and multiply that by the 100s of trailers in the fleet, and thats a huge cost saving

Thought those trailers were used to carry electrical goods, hence not stickered up as they could be targetted by criminals?

And on the plus side,if uncle eddie needs to do a collect or delivery to Sainsburys/ASDA/Morrisons/etc and the only spare trailers in the yard are plain white tesco fridges i does make life easier for the planners…just take that tesco trailer,it’s plain white and nobody will know… :open_mouth:

Could they just be rental trailers or on a contract lease ?

soon this will be happening

You’ll also find now that when they replace the blue curtains on the curtainsiders they are plain blue, and that quite a lot of the tractors have no markings either.

A lot of the white trailers have the England three lions logo and tesco written on the back roller doors. :exclamation: :exclamation:
