Places to stop near Oxford with family

driving from pboro to Poole avoiding m25 like plague. Planning take 421 then 34 down south. Figured half way about Oxford so any recommendations place stretch legs, toilets etc not straying too far off route. Doesn’t have to be a msa.

Cheers.

Yep,foods not to sad in the garden centre…take mum there sometimes

Abingdon off the A34, a pleasant town with a river walk, parking in the coach and lorry parking, cars ok.
Or Bicester, shopping mall outlet.

Do you wear a Trilby hat and drive a Rover

Slightly off route but the kids would love to see heavy transport aircraft landing at Carterton which is the base for RAF Brize Norton, look for Boeing C17,s and 747,s, follow the perimeter fence for the viewing area by the runway .

Definitely NO Trilby
Drive a Skoda Octavia Black or ride a Ducati 996R .
It’s because Mum likes the place and she is 83 and her powered wheelchair can get her there and back easily.

On a bank holiday weekend?
Avoid it like a prostitute with ebola. I’d advise the OP to keep going well past Bicester and Oxford, use the Chilton garden centre as mentioned.

Chievley services right on the M4/A34 interchange ain’t bad if you don’t want to stray too far off route.

Incorrect, I live under the flight path and have never seen a C17 or 747 land, the RAF “Voyagers” yes…

The C17 globemasters are based there, how’ve you never seen one? I live under the flightpath and there are some about today. The propellor powered one that looks like a C17 (The A400M) is now based there too and as you say the Voyagers (A380 tanker/passenger). The hercules is there also until they’re withdrawn.
Tobys’ right, 747s do land there but not very regularly now. Virgin used to train out of Brize but I think commercial training has all but finished there now.
If in the Cotswolds, have a look at Raf Fairford, pretty quiet these days but you can get lucky and occasionally see some heavy yank stuff.

The RAF charter commercial aircraft from any airline if needs to to fly troops anywhere in the world .
In the two wars in the Middle East, it was common to see Monarch or Thomas Cook Airbuses or Boeings.
Virgin took troops on 747,s .

Why the A421? Take the A605/A45 to Northampton then the A43 to Oxford; it’s more direct and avoids the traffic on the way into Milton Keynes.

The Voyagers are A330s operated by AirTankers Ltd

I’ve loaded the Antanov there a few times too …
