might be going to algeciras arriving at santander off the boat best way go and nice and safe parking on the way down and places to park when there waiting for trailers
You have a choice to go either via Madrid or to the west via Valladolid and Salamanca. I don’t think there is much between them. Loads of places to stop overnight and you shouldn’t have any problems as long as you are half sensible. If you have time to kill in Algerciras just pop along to gib. You can park safely right next to the frontier. Cheap booze and ■■■■ and loads of places to eat. Best places to buy is Morrisons, some of the places in the High Street are a bit of a rip off. Be careful in Algerciras, that can be a bit dodgy. Check for Morrocans hiding in or under the trailer.
Ex-Haulier,why would the Morrocans hiding in the trailers be a problem,as they have already made it in to european soil without papers,or do you mean, they are up to no good.
There is a good place to eat,off the High Street in Gib,an Irish themed restaurant, and also Morrisons have a good cafe, for breakfast and meals all day.
Plenty of places to eat in La Linea,on the Spanish side near Gib.
Dont do what i did,and take the mountain pass, that looks the quickest way to Burgos,i nearly got stuck in the snow, any cars coming down, would have been a problem,as i had to keep the wheels moving up the hill,as you come off the ferry,go further West to join a faster road to head South.
I would go Madrid, then Ocana to Bailen, good Andumar truckstop after the dramatic Las Carolinas mountain pass, very hilly, and lots of curves, take it easy there, the BP truckstop,is not so good as it once was.Head to Malaga, then take the coast road or the toll road to by pass Marbella to Algercerias.
Dont park on your own anywhere, safety in numbers, see a place with loads of trucks, you know the grub is good, the Guardia Civil patrol at night, and they have un-marked cars, for the robbers. Some folks ratchet strap their cab doors, but if there was a fire,it is not good to get out fast. There are numerous cafes on any routes, the coffee is cheap, and most drivers will have tapas,a mini meal.
Toby. He says he is going to be waiting for a trailer in Algeciras, that means it is almost certainly coming of the boat from maroc. They tend to hang on to the trailers until they are out of the docks as the spanish are not as fussy as us and just stick them sraight back on the boat. When you spend some time down there you see in the local papers no end of tales of them getting killed as they go along the road from Algerciras.
I thought he was coming off at Santander, then heading down to Andulucia,no worries, wish i was coming, getting itchy feet, stuck at home.
i will be getting off the boat in santander ive been told then down to algeciras drop a trailer may have to wait for one back to the uk via santander boat what ever day that sails back ■■
I cant imagine anything more scary. collect an unaccompanied trailer from Morocco and drive it home, at least you are avoiding France
Well matey. If your doing the Santander boat there and back and just running down to trailer change at Algeciras that’s about as good as it gets so enjoy.
shortest route is vie the ruta de la plata the A66. plenty of safe parking where you don’t need to strap your doors, this is spain not italy or the uk
you should make a large hotel called LEO just south of a town called monasterio from santander free parking, shower, good food and plenty of continental express boys if you feel the need to listen to hours of BS
called in this morning for breakfast and there was a table full of them and they were actually louder than the spanish
From Santander most drivers heading for Algeciras go down to Palencia,A67 then A62 Valadolid,Salamanca then A66 Caceres to Seville, onto Algeciras.Good new road nice & quite, plenty of good parking too, used it myself & prefer that way to going via Madrid. The Santander boat only runs on certain days so best to check the timetable.Santander to Algeciras is 12 & a bit hours driving.

A lot of the Davies Turner trailers are now sent over unaccomanied, getting knocked about en route by the ■■■■■■■■■ & that same route is used depending on the sailing days of the Santander boat. One way of getting a 24 hour break in.
Freight boat Santander- Poole. Sunday 15.15pm
Monday 14.00 people boat I think!

When you get into Algeciras port you will have to go to your agent for your clearance details, make sure you have the company name of the agent that you are using. The port is a big & spread out, there are agents on your right as you come down the flyover & also in the main building further into the port on the left,if your agent is to the right of the flyover you have to go to the roundabout & double back on yourself, keeping to the right lanes heading towards the water,Maersk containers on your right, then bear left under the flyover park up in the parking area & the office block is in front of you.If you are dropping a trailer you will be told to take it round the back of the dock,to the crappy parking area, there is pay parking up there on the right if you have to stop for any length of time.I would advise you to go " armed " with a phone number of your agent & incase of getting lost on the dock you can ring them & they can come & find you on one of their scooters.

generally a lot cheaper than eating in Gib as well
If you are into famous people you can often find Mick McMichael in the bar/Restaraunt in the Shell station at KM 124 on the A7 heading north. Be warned though, he is a boring ■■■■■■
