hi just joined after reading a few topics,
if you do not have the correct placard on a tank and stopped by the police you wouldnt be allowed to go any further until it was corrected ? so how does my childrens school bus which does not have the correct yellow school sign on fornt or back ,be able to ignore what the law says ■■ i have contacted the police but pc pleb at the local police station sent me a email and said to stop the buses would not be in the best interests ??and would send the wrong message to the school children and parents ,he also says about how vulnerable these children are as its a special needs school
so is this one law for one and not for another ■■?
Placards on tankers etc are there to conform with United Nations ADR regs - regulations regarding the carriage of dangerous goods by road. They indicate the hazard level and type of load. School bus signs are not part of these laws or UN regs.
Only school busses ‘may’ show the school bus sign, but to the best of my knowledge are not required to, some requirements they must meet if shown are here:

The sign is there to set a different set of Highway Code rules around the bus when stopped.
I may be wrong, but I don’t think its law to show them - just law to not show them if your not a school bus on a school trip/journey.
School contract vehicles are issued with a front and rear school minibus sign. When carrying
groups that are made up of a majority of children under the age of 15, a driver is required to
display these signs at the front and rear of the vehicle. They must not be displayed when not
conveying children on such duties, other than when complying with local requirements in foreign
countries.

its probably to do with the fact that most school buses are run under contract, and would normally have the necessary boards, but there are occasions when a sub contractor is used, who doesnt normally do the school run, and therefore would not normally carry school boards, thats my opinion, but i certainly wouldnt worry whether my childs school bus had a sign saying School Bus the same as i dont take any notice of cars that have Child on board or Baby on Board …so what…i`m more concerned with how the bus and its driver are behaving.
