Pikelets or Crumpets?

Reading the 24 volt kettle thread and the fact that i have an inverter with a toaster.
I bought a pack of “2 giant crumpets” from Iceland today, they were very nice but where I come from they’re called Pikelets.

Who changed the name to Crumpets? I’m obviously of an age to know what “crumpet” is!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crumpet

Piklets have fruit in them,Crumpets don’t.

Think its also a regional variation as they can be the same thing in the north of England apparently. Although having lived there for most of my life I don’t ever remember the flat ones until recently.

Pretty sure the warberton ones are giant overpriced crumpets not pikelets.

How to pronounce scone?
To rhyme with “on” (on top of), or “own” (I own a dictionary) ?

And to follow, the old problem of whether to put the jam or cream onto your Devon Cream Tea scone first?
OK, There`s obviously only one answer to that one!

We’re drifting into mumsnet again

Never mind that. What is the correct nomenclature for a small round dough based comestible which is generally sliced in half and filled with cheese; ham; egg or bacon, or a variety of other fillings?

I always thought that “crumpet” was what you took round the back of Tiffanys on a Saturday night if you was lucky.

Never heard it called a pikelet until I moved to Birmingham. Thought it a black country term.
