Who can honestly say they have been done for having a drink of coffee? the only reason people get done for minor things is that the police have observed them driving erratically not because there drinking or eating a chocolate bar but because there driving without due care and attention
Dear, dear, dear, you’ll be telling us the tooth fairy & Father Chrismas really do exist!!! None of these modern forms of detection have anything to do with road safety, how can it be unsafe to be sat at a set of trafic lights with the handbrake on using a handheld mobike phone or eating an apple?
Go on, tell me that nobody has ever been been done for those.

Really can’t see why everyone on here is so worried about the police truck, it’s there for a bloody good reason to catch the idiots that drive along with laptops etc watching DVDs or reading books or cooking meals or whatever other stupid things people do and if you in to all that then you deserve everything you get.

There will be a thread soon about truck drivers driving whilst watching ■■■■ and then there be moaning about vosa, police and the gas man for not doing anything about it. I swear this country is full of moaners

The one thing that really annoys me about this truck is that they could do what they are doing and for every truck they pull they could catch 20 cars or vans
They have motorway cars for that , they cant chase cars in a truck , even a city rover would get away limiter or not , although I suppose they could ram a car .
I thought they video the evidence and a car pulls you down the road,on a Friday on the m5 north from Gloucester to the m6 all 3 lanes run about 50 mph every few cars someone has there phone in their hand
if they not knit picking like having a swig of drink etc then fine
Pass to many with dvds on or on the phone
and latest craze facebook when driving
Seen first hand damage causes and deaths freinds sister in law few years back driver texting killed her
Look at the police programme few years back they pulled a mrs driver 4 in afternoon for on phone on m42
turns out he was 3 times the limit and can of super open in cab
Now if didnt have that police truck and pulled him for phone to start with could of been any of our familys wiped out up the road later on

Before I write a single word on this subject, I’m not trying to justify drinking & driving!! however, the MRS driver must’ve been a full on alcoholic so we must assume he’d done this before without crashing into bus loads of school kids!! That said, he needed stopping & a lengthy ban was the least he deserved & hopefully he’ll never get an HGV licence again!!
But you can’t justify these mobile tax collectors by virtue of this ‘one in a Million’ case, so to justify their own existance they’ll happily knick you for ANYTHING they see you do that carries a fine of any sort because it’s numbers of tickets issued that keeps them cruising the motorways of the UK bobtail in a top spec air-conditioned tractor unit!!

If you are going to do something “naughty”…just make sure you don’t get caught imo.
spot on, because if your making sure you don’t get caught, it means your concentrating, which is something you that you should be doing in the first place when in control of a vehicle

saw mr plod this morning inhis silver and black mega space merc eastboung on M62 just before hartshead moor services
so full marks to your sir, you passed the aptitude test (what were you doing before you spotted LGV plod?)

‘Please, please Chief-Superintendent can we keep playing all day in the big lorry, we like it’
‘Well sorry lads it’s costing far too much to chase after something that isn’t a huge problem to be honest’
‘But sir, look at all these tickets we’ve issued at £60 a pop’
'Oh but we don’t actually get to keep any of that, we have to give it all to central government, that’s why we got the truck dealer to lend us your nice top spec, air conditioned tractor unit rather than hire or buy one…

It still counts on their targets. They still have to be paid wages and those two in the truck can’t exactly fast respond to another incident. I doubt the dealer’s filling it with diesel and it wouldn’t then be a dealer I’d ever use again. They’re obviously making far too much if they’ve got spare trucks to loan out.

Don’t forget to mention that they very kindly disabled the roadspeed limiter before they loaned it to us!!!
point is, even if it’s target driven, the reasoning for it cannot be a financial one and therefore must either be one of road safety or victimisation. If it’s victimisation, it’s alot more easier and efficient to catch people cycling on the pavement or something.

I agree, simply for the reason that I cannot fathom how the system is possibly paying for itself. I have read of 2 or 3 blokes in the cab, coppers, so taking home +/- £100 each a day, plus another one or two in the squad car on the same rate. Then factor in the costs of fuel, recording equipment etc…its getting a serious amount of money per day for all this. Unless they are stopping people every ten minutes it cannot make any financial sense. It could be a road safety thing, but to be honest I am far from convinced on that score. To top it off, just how often to lorries cause accidents again? Oh yes, not very often at all, in fact I don’t remember the last time I saw a crashed up lorry (unless a car had hit it) so yes I think it is in part victimisation, or, just easy money (we can’t speed away)
I would guess that this is about keeping crime solving figures up. Point a camera into a truck cab, if the driver isn’t commiting a crime, no crime, if he is then they have video evidence of the crime. 100% crime solving rate, this will make up the statistics for the number of robberies and burglaries that they can’t be arsed to investigate as that would take up manpower for crimes they probably wouldn’t be able to solve as that would take intelligence and work.
There’s a difference between ‘reportable offences’ and ‘crimes’ Minor moving traffic offences such as using a mobile phone etc. are not crimes, however dangerous driving and drink driving may lead to a criminal conviction and so could be regarded as a crime, depending on their severity.
It is just revenue raising, just a way of paying for their bloated public service pensions.
Is there anyone here who would say that if they, personally, ate a Mars bar while driving a truck, that they would be even the slightest risk to other road users?

Of course it’s “taget driven”, your forgetting that it’s not a business they’re running where they must cover the cost of the truck, the 3 bod’s inside it, fuel, insurance, depreciation etc, etc. Then the cost of the BMW 530 diesel following it with 2 more bod’s inside with it’s fuel, depreciation etc, in fact your missing the point completely because all these are fixed costs to ‘the filth’ because they have to pay all their staff & vehicle costs from an operating ■■■■■ so ALL they’re after is RESULTS as the fines are not part of their income from which the have to cover their costs!!!
It matters not one jot to the ‘top bod’ in the force that it costs ‘a grand’ a day to fund this type of policing and they might only hand out £2,000 a week in fines, in business you’d fail in no time at all, but as a set of results for a constabulary it’s GOOD BUSINESS!!
We’re being targeted for what can only be described as trivial matters and that jock ■■■■ (sorry people from Scotland) ‘poacher turned game keeper’ ex lorry driver copper talkes about it like he’s leading an anti terrorist unit for Christs sake!!! “This driver was caught eating a Ginsters pastie whilst driving a 44 ton potential murder weapon”, GET A LIFE, drivers have been doing this for decades without causing a catastrophe 100 times a day. If this practice was indeed as dangerous as they are now saying it is, there would have been literally hundreds of people a day killed by truckers over the last 30 years. (& that’s just by me!! )
