First shot - is that the result of those horror big fires in late 2012?

Second - I can imagine it gets a bit hairy going uphill empty too. Do you get much snow there?

Yes, all up they lost 60,000 acres.

We usually lose traction going up empty and that’s with the CTI (Central Tire Inflation) down to 32 PSI, Active Traction Control, and Inter lock. If you lock the diffs you cant get round the corners, but you can get back out the ditch and onto the road again.

It’s snowing at the moment, just waiting for a phone call to say if we’re starting at 1 AM or if it’s going to be called of again.

There’s always an extra 20,000 tons sitting at the paper mill at this time of year so that’s enough to keep them going for 5 days.

Bumped for Pete.

Jeff…

Going again with an assortment.

Hey Jelliot … Here is what I started and ended up finishing my full time driving in … 85 SAR ex Kwikasair

So today I’m bowling along a back road west of the Divide (somewhere between Upper Bum[zb] and Redneck Ridge) and something about some shapes parked under a tree a couple of hundred yards up the road makes me slow down and - after a good long hard peer - stop the truck. And lo…

Yes, I was right - an old ACCO “Butterbox”. And then I looked at the thing parked next to it and instantly recognised the cab just from the back of it

F281014 003.jpg

AFAICT even the 4- and 6-legger versions aren’t all that common any more, so I wonder how many 8-leggers there are left in any recognisable shape. This one had a tanker (1270 3YE perhaps?)…

And finally, a pic of the cab of the 6-legger next to it. Leyland (obviously). If this was Britain I’d have guessed Reiver, but this is Oz and … well, I dunno for certain. According to the NSW RTA sticker (passenger quarter window) last registered June 1992, so it’s been stuck here a while. I’d have had a closer and longer stickybeak (like what engine the Leyland had), but these were parked opposite a couple of houses and I was in a truck with the company logo all down the side complete with phone number so, you know, discretion.

Some good photos still appearing on here. That old butter box Acco looks the business, I spent a lot of time working on SAR’s Darren, who were you driving that for?
I was driving up in the Derwent Valley a few weeks ago and came across a fully restored Leyland Buffalo. I’ll try and get some photos of it, there’s also a Series 1 Globetrotter sitting behind a hedge, but I’m not saying where that is.

Jeff…

Jeff … Doug Paton owns the old SAR … You’ve probably seen him getting around in the ex Holymans (yellow with black stripes) K104 on Double container work

This beast … I had it for a while aswell as a red and white Sterling … Mostly on sideloader work

Yes I’ve seen it about… Holymans… always good fun meeting them coming the other way on the Lyle highway…

Jeff…

I certainly wouldn’t want the job of cleaning out the poop in those cattle floats after a decent trundle down the silky smooth moon-scapes you fellows call roads. Jim.

Heres a taste of some of the weather in northern Western Australia. Cheers DIG

Ha Ha Ha, Having read these posts, I know why I returned to the UK. Driving in WA in 1970 to 1972 was an experience that’s for sure. And I struck lucky ( right place right time ) and walked into a good job with some good equipment. But the reality then was driving was a hard hard game, mostly with old and very USED trucks, and unlike the UK & Europe road side stops were very few and far between and the road was more like driving along a 500 mile stretch of corrugated sheet with red dust getting in every ■■■■ and cranny. And the round trip runs I did up to Mt Newman was a good trip about 1400 miles from memory. still I would not have missed it for the world ( But I was glad to get back to full tarmac) until a memorable ME run, but again that’s another story. But all of these photo`s really do bring back lots of memory’s so keep them coming. ( Also noticed that they seem to like the Freightliner Argosy truck ).
