Quick question does anyone still know if you receive an extension to your medical date when renewing the photo on your license?. Have seen some information regarding this topic in posts from a few years ago. My photo expires in two months time but my first medical is not due until 2021. My current licence I believe is the newer type eu style one. I noticed Rog being quite informed on this topic at the time so If your out there Rog any current info would be gratefully received.

I had a sneaky suspicion that It would no longer be available I may not bothering to renew when the time comes but It would have been a bonus if it was still available.
October 2017 was the deadline date for the free 5 years
Time and time again drivers are asking on here to find ways to prolong the inevitable,is it to try and save money or are they worried they may have a medical condition.
If its money put a quid in a piggy bank each week,as you know when your medical is due,if its medical condition would`nt it be better to get it sorted before its gets worse or to late

So you’ll renew your licence, but only if you don’t have to do a medical? The mind boggles 
ER…NO…all he wants or needs to do is change the photo on the licence,as it does have an expiry date…he doesnt need a medical till 2021…and wont be given one…just a change of photo.

As I no longer work as an hgv driver and no longer intend to having this extension may well have proved a little bonus should I ever need to use my license again. I’m sure you have taken advantage of some kind of loophole before. My current line of work requires me to be in good fettle so as far as I’m concerned there are no underlying medical conditions I hope. But here we are again individuals passing judgement on situations they have absolutely no clue about.
A group 2 medical is I believe a separate requirement to the one I undertake for my current work. A medical is inevitable so It’s something I can’t avoid.
If it helps at all, you don’t have to do the medical immediately / before 2021 if you don’t want - if you do it after your licence lapses you’ll still get it back, don’t need to do tests again or anything like that
If you might want to still do the odd day driving or something, a driver medical only costs about £50. You’ll earn that back in under a day.

but a basic medical exam before driving a heavy vehicle isn’t a joke, isn’t something to ignore, and isn’t something to look for loopholes to avoid doing!
