Phone fraud

Mrs received a letter from 02 on Friday stating her d/d hadn’t been paid & we now owed them £104 apx , with a list of what will happen if we don’t pay that amount
Now my mrs phone contract is with ee , the tel no on letter is not hers , the only thing that looks right is her name & address on letter
We assume they haven’t got her bank details as if they did the d/d would of been paid . I rang 02 and it’s now apparently with the fraud team & they will tell us the outcome of the investigation in 14/30 days
So some questions
1.do the phone companies not do a check on bank details when they set up a phone contract , obviously the details the piece of crap who did this gave false details , why didn’t this show up .
Daughters boyfriend did a search on Friday night & he showed me 123 people searched for the tel no Friday , why , wouldnt alarm bells be ringing ( assuming this 123 have the same letters we do ) with the tel companies if a number was used 123 times to set up a phone contract
Lastly daughters boyfriend said this will effect my mrs credit rating ( loans etc ) , we’ve no intention of borrowing money , but is he right
I’m tempted to see a solicitor as 02 give me the feeling they just want the money , not sort this mess of there making ( they allowed a fraudulent contract to be set up

Good outcome , shows those what these pieces of ■■■■ will try to get uoto

The reason that Fraud is so prolific these days is that everyone attempting it - never gets caught, and therefore it has zero risk, even when it doesn’t work, or things go wrong.

It is often said that a 1 in a 100 take-up of any “con” - supplies enough inflows of cash to the con artist to keep them in all the BMWs they can eat.

Keep a look on the other side of the pond for some changes by 2025 that will finally put a police force in place that are net savvy to go after actual criminals like con artists, rather than chasing people that make mean tweets, or say they can’t pay their taxes because they’ve lost their job prematurely…

“The Law is on our side!” screamed the bailiff.

Now you/your missus need to check your credit files held by the credit reference agencies (Experian and Equifax are the main players, but there are others). You can check to see which accounts have been opened in your name(s) and which addresses your name(s) is/are linked to. If there are anomalies, you should report them to the agency concerned, and at the very least get a formal correction recorded against them.

You may have no intention of taking out loans etc - but links on your file to dodgy addresses and defaulted accounts will also affect your ability to hire cars, take out phone contracts etc and may bump up your insurance premiums, costing you money every year.

The free credit checks I am registered with are:-
clubs.moneysavingexpert.com/creditclub/register
and
creditkarma.co.uk/signup

You can choose either or both. They both email me every month with updates.

The other alternative is checkmyfile.com/ this is the best because it checks 4 different sources Equifax, Experian, TransUnion and Crediva but is only free for one month then £15 a month.

There is no need pay for this information (unless you are looking to tweak every last percentage point out of your credit rating). ALL the credit reference agencies are required by law to provide a basic credit history check free of charge, and to deal with corrections/errors flagged up by consumers. There is no need to go paying out £15 a month, or subscribing to a third part intermediary for this service.

“Contacting a credit reference agency” - has the effect of proving to them that you actually exist in real life, rather than just “on paper”, thus opening the door to those others who make requests of Experion in particular for data that they can then use to open fake accounts in your name, passing that credit data back to the same credit reference agencies who’ll then state that "Yes, the original Fred Bloggs owes this amount, not just a conman taking out an account in that name, as the real one has alleged since, via their “correction form” which we ignore unless paid a lot of money.

“Credit Scoring” is not that far removed from the CCP Social Scoring plans, where your entire life as a “file” is like a ball and chain for the rest of one’s natural life… IF you make the mistake of NOT weaning yourself off unnecessary borrowing, rather than “going without” which is what sensible people do when they don’t have enough cash to buy what they want.

How many on here, I wonder would act in one of the following ways when it comes to “losing their solid job” during the likely depression that is coming?

(1) Default one’s debts, the moment one’s income drops below a level to make any minimum payments due

(2) Murder/Suicide one’s entire family, the moment one realizes that without a job, they cannot stop the bayliffs taking away all the stuff they’ve accumulated over their lifetimes…

There is no force on earth that can make a truly skint person cough up a defaulted debt.
There shouldn’t be any force on Earth that can drive someone to kill their loved ones, rather than be a “welcher” or “defauter” like say, Trump who’s gone bankrupt 10 times, and is still a multi millionaire at the end of it…

People need to learn how to kick bankers in the teeth, and then go without for six years of credit after, rather than just give up on life in despair the moment they lose the job they never believed they COULD lose…

If you don’t understand why people jumped off window ledges during the 1930’s then you are far more likely to face the same fate yourself, should your own financial world fall apart.

The vast majority of people that topped themselves after the wall street crash - had NOT traded in stocks and bonds, or considered themselves gamblers of any kind. They were “solid” savers who lost the lot when their previously-thought “Safe” bank went ■■■■-up following the mass-default of borrowers who DID play the markets with your savings loaned to them!

“Fraud” isn’t always called that, but Banks are nearly always involved in the parting of the mark from their money. They HAVE to be, if you think about it…

I suspect that certain classes of people, such as Brudders - are very hard to con indeed, based on their lack of bank accounts among their own number. The near-universal ownership of Iphones however - may finally breach that firewall that has protected such people up until now…
