DHL?

Thanks for all your help guys.

Haven’t had my C and CE 4 even a year yet so I am not so sure that anyone would take a chance on me anyway.

That being said, I was talking to a chap the other day who seemed to be of the opinion there is a preference amongst some companies to take on rookies and train them to do it ‘their company way’ the psychology being that an uninitiated driver, devoid of being set in his or her ways is less of a risk than an experienced driver who has learned different ways of doing things from a number of previous jobs.

SURELY THIS CANNOT BE CORRECT, IT DEFIES ALL LOGIC■■?!!!

I was sure their was no ‘quick and easy’ path?

Don’t know what its like now but I only had my licence about 9 months when I got a start for Esso back in 1988. fantastic job and conditions but still didnt like it. They went part contract a few months later and bailed out before being paid off as I was on a temp contract.

I have been on tankers for 23 years and I am now on the Shell contract delivering to retail outlets.
Yes, it is a demanding job and yes you are constantly monitered, but isnt that what we are paid for? We are professionals and we should expect it in a highly hazardous job. As you have been told, try all the big names and the small ones just to get your foot in the door. I dont know how old you are but it is a highly paid and interesting job, it`s not everybodys cup of the but it paid my mortgage off,and that takes a lot of stress off your life,go for it!!

It’s not a highly paid job now! Maybe you’re on an old contract?

I heard a few years back that they were taking guys from the agencies, putting 'em through a class 1 & ADR (have never used it/renewed it) n starting em on 21k but could be a ‘drivers myth’!! Incidentally, when i took my ADR along with my class 1 back in '88, i seem to remember that , if u were the driver and were in the process of unloading at a forecourt etc,u had to have somebody from the garage ‘in attendance’ in case of emergency, but i may be wrong, memory aint as good these days!! I thought this when i pulled in to Hilton Pk (N) one night for a quick smoke, was about 30 yards away (on the nearside kerb of exit road) from ‘tanker guy’ delivering when he shouted ‘can’t smoke there mate’ to which i shouted back ‘ain’t u meant to have someone with u’…‘wotever’ he replied

hiya … i worked at shell(not on tanks) on odd occasions i had to deliver into the gantry area (gate 2 oil site road)
i didn,t have a card to entrace that area and had to get out of my truck and report to the gateman so that was 2
minuite wait the tank men would be shouting like mad as they was,nt allowed to wait as their card got them straight
into this area and the same getting out again. i spoke to the gateman about it one day and he said they was all stressed
up to the eyeballs.

Hi i work on the shell contract the wages are very good £37000 + .12 hour shifts, one weekend out of three. nights and days on rolling shift ,everything monitered .no mistakes allowed .scratch a truck and you will be disaplined . 18 recent redundancys, working in all weathers ,lunatics smoking on forcourts .some very tight garages . but saying that i quite enjoy the work you get paid 12 hours wether or not you do 12 hours .you go home when you have finished for instance i was home after 8 hours today .
good luck

petrol tanker drivers motto "drive it like ya stole it and your on a promise with the missus"

petrol tankers also have the same priorities as a fire engine using blues and twos when out on the road - or so they think they do anyway :exclamation:
