Petrol tanker driver smoking whilst driving

iv long noticed if you drive slowly in a queue and someones smoking ahead the smoke is drawn into my cab can almost smell what brand it is . but drive along a high street and i never once smell smoke from pedestrians .

Cant understand the anti smoking brigade on here complaining to high heaven about somebody smoking when they drive heavily polluting vehicles that belch out carcinogenic particules !! :unamused:

dogface:
Your not allowed to have any source of ignition in the truck or on your person . if he was searched back at the loading depot and found to have any ignition sources he would be banned off site and lose his job .

Had a drop at BP Chemicals at Saltend once, I had to drop all sources of ignition and electronics (phone, sat nav) into a little plastic bag and leave it at the gatehouse. Stuck there for two long boring hours!

Had a petrol tanker driver at Clacket Lane ask me for a light the other day, he told me that they weren’t allowed to carry a lighter or matches so he had to ask everytime he wanted a ciggy.
I would imagine it’s quite safe for them to smoke in the cab these days as everything is sealed in and I’m sure the drivers would know if their is any risk.

Smoking inside the cab would be instant dismissal if they were spotted.

Smoking has been banned in such vehicles for a very long time. I can clearly remember as a small child listening to a radio play which was on after ‘Listening with Mother’ in the late '50s. The subject was the plight of the driver’s widow after her lorry driver husband had been killed when his petrol tanker exploded. The life insurance company were refusing to pay out to her because smoking materials had been found in the cab and it was assumed therefore that he was responsible for his own death. The play concluded with the discovery by one of the main characters that an axle oil leak had caused a wheel fire.

The clowns who say it is ok to smoke when you drive will be smokers themselves, you tend to find smokers don’t give a t…s about any rules in the work place .Remember they must have their next fix at all cost…

Smokers have it easy, try injecting heroin without a dashcam warrior catching you.

Or another driver :unamused:

How about the lads carrying bales of hay. I’d be dreading going down the motorway everyday thinking some arse is going to lob a lit tab end out of their window and it landing stright into the load :open_mouth:
I wonder how many times this has happend especially during the scorching days of summer we get now and again?

Cue the inventors:- surely there’s a market for ■■■■ that can light themselves?

Just in case, I don’t always take myself seriously. So neither should you. Pick and choose…

Speak for yourself, I drive a euro 6 :grimacing:

I like the way the op described exactly when and where this happened, and pretty much described the vehicle so it wouldn’t be hard for a boss to check the tracker and find who it was. But it was only an “observation” of course

The boss is playing golf
