Petrol and diesel cars to be phased out within 20 years?

stu675:
Electric car sales overtake diesel for first time

Electric car sales = 16.6%
Diesel= 10%

(2022 sales figures)

Petrol = ?.

Near new >3 years old EV v petrol ?.

Residual values petrol v EV ?.

Bearing in mind I’ve delivered more than one petrol replacement for EV including a hybrid for a Polestar, but not one vice versa.

Also I’ve personally never seen an EV replacement for diesel.
Diesel for diesel or diesel for petrol about 50/50.

Correction I did recently collect a diesel XJ PEX for a Jag EV.
An exception proving the rule but obviously diesel is a red herring as opposed to petrol v EV.

EV’s outsold petrol cars in the month of December 2022 by 193 cars :open_mouth: . transportandenergy.com/2023/01/ … -december/

Remind me what was the year to date figure ?.
Good luck with trying to base a business plan on the known worse month of the year which the EV fan boys are selectively clutching at.
The truth is JLR among others are caught in a catch 22 of buyers rightly preferring a used petrol V8 to a new 4 cylinder hybrid let alone an EV.Bearing in mind that used sales aren’t subject to new car sales average CO2 quotas.

The State of Wyoming in America has just put two fingers up at the transition to electric vehicles & moved to ban new electric vehicles by 2035 lol. insideevs.com/features/631229/w … cle-sales/
I think by 2030 you’ll be hard pushed to buy a new ICE car even in north America.

I see that British Volt, the UK’s proposed EV super-battery producing company, went belly-up yesterday. “No track record, and an un-developed product” given as reasons for the failure. Couldn’t the same have been said about Tesla? Or for that matter, early days of the steam engine, flying machines, space flight - or motor cars and electricity itself?

Another industry that the UK will sadly miss out on, I was surprised Jaguar didn’t get involved with buying into it as they’ve announced a BEV only future by 2025 & Land Rover by 2030. Jaguars owner TATA group has now announced that they will be making electric vehicle battery cells in Europe now, Talk about missing the bus for good jobs in this country. :unamused:

Retailers impose used EV stocking ban as values slump | Used Cars

Ha! My heart bleeds for them, They stocked up on ridiculously overpriced EV’s at the height of the used EV price rise inflating the bubble even more yet every man & his dog could see the bubble was going to burst. People were buying them using Buy now pay later financials hoping to sell them 6-12 months down the line for a profit, You take the gamble you pay the price. The prices are back to “normal” so they’ll have to take the hit on every ev they bought…Oh dear…how sad…never mind.

As opposed to what it’s really saying.
They are ‘stocking’ and selling ICE cars ‘instead’ of EVs because car ‘buyers’ know that EVs are worthless junk.
Only a deluded climate scam believer could possibly read that as anything other than a problem for EV manufacturers and those who’ve been silly enough to buy one and are now subject to the resulting depreciation cost.How sad ( for them ) indeed.

It clearly says they are ‘stocking up’ on ICE cars not EVs.
Somehow you translate that as having stocked up on over priced EVs which they now can’t sell.Which a look around any car showroom worth its investment would confirm as crapola of the highest order.
The truth is they never stocked up on any EV’s, new or used, because they ain’t in the habit of buying in stock which no one wants to buy. and they know that EVs ain’t selling.Its a straight fight between diesel v petrol and petrol is rightly and predictably winning.

There’s obviously nothing in that for the ‘fudgers’.Unless they are acting on political motives and orders.
It all just a reflection of the fact that no one voted for this economically suicidal, anything but green, anti fossil fuel crusade.
No one with any sense wants to make their household dependent on an expensive all electric nightmare at 60p per kWh.Nor trade in their ICE car for a joke EV.

Looks like Brussels has made a deal with Germany to have an e-fuel exemption to keep the combustion ban in place. Although all new cars from 2035 will only be able to run on e-fuels & not petrol or diesel.

“The new declaration would change the rules that determine what kinds of cars can take to the road in Europe so that certain vehicles that can only burn e-fuels are permitted after an effective ban on new combustion engine automobiles enters into force, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private. And given that e-fuels are molecularly identical to conventional fuels, extra technologies or fuel additives would have to be incorporated to ensure new cars cannot use banned fuels after 2035, the person said.” todaynewspost.com/auto-news/eu- … n-car-ban/

It never was an ICE ‘ban’.Its a ban on fossil fuelled engines.Hydrogen fuelled ICE v EV is the end game to keep all the premium car makers in business.They know that the best premium EV would be a van conversion to provide the best battery capacity and a comfortable place to wait during those lengthy waits for charging and if not a charging point.Anything else will be all about race to the bottom pricing.
It’s clear that BMW for one obviously doesn’t intend to commit commercial suicide bearing in mind that it has already made a decent functioning hydrogen fuelled version of a V12 design long ago.
