The Professional Drivers Association have requested that we help publicise their petition to stop Alconbury Truckstop being closed.
The PDA would ask you all to sign this petition in support of keeping Night Owl Alconbury as a secure lorry park, and NOT turning it into warehousing
This Petition will run for a month and signatures may be added online at petitionspot.com:80/petitions/nightowlpda in addition, signatures will be collected at Truckfest Peterborough on May 6th & 7th.
this is for ALL lorry drivers and not just PDA Members. Our safety and security is at stake.
It will be presented to Huntingdon District Council, and a number of other local interested parties together with a request NOT to allow any change of use of this land.
We will be seeking support for this campaign from the Highways Agency, The Cambridgeshire Police Force, Truckpol, Eurowatch, VOSA, Cambridgeshire Freight Quality Partnership, The Road Haulage Association, The Transport Association and and The Freight Transport Association
We cannot, must not and indeed will not, allow this secure lorry park to close without a fight.
Alconbury may not be the best truckstop in the world, but it is a well used valuable resource for drivers in the area. Drivers need more secure parking not less,
I also saw these comments - Reading these comments confuses me. Night Owl are tenants and WANT to stay open as a Truckstop, it is the new owners of the land who want to change it.
Throws a different light on the matter, if indeed it is correct.
Done .
Parking is getting ridiculous , even for a 45 min break overnight .
Coming up the A34 from Alton last night .Pulled into Sutton Scotney , full no where to park without blocking , other trucks parked so that the available space was badly used .Pulled out of Sutton Scotney to make my way to Tot Hill ,pulled into there , garage forecourt space full , truck park full , edge of truck park full now on 4hrs 25 mins driving , pulled out of the services back over the flyover all the way round the roundabout back on myself and parked on the flyover with the N’S right up against the railings so i didn’t block the road .
Left my sidelights on so i didn’t get to much bother from the plod .4 cop cars passed me and not one of them batted an eyelid .
Only been in a couple of times while on days, and if it does close, that will add to the problem of parking in the Cambridgeshire area, which is dire already.
However, weren’t Nightowl the same owners of the now closed Birtley truck stop?
What is actually happening with regards to Nightowl??
first they sell penrith then close birtley and now alconbury.
Is it not a case that they are just after making a quick buck from selling and any protest will not help in the planning stages if Nightowl are not interested.
