Hiya Dennis its Vic,i some times sit with a couple on a saturday night ,John is about 75 and he worked for Edwards for a long time i think his second name is some thing like Goodiyear, can’t ask him now as he is in "spain"but i will check it out in a couple of weeks and mention your father in laws name to him.Hope you and the wife are ok as we are here.Regards Vic.P.S.Do you know if Les Boyd is still around ,Dennis C,Bernie B,and myself have not heard owt about him since he worked for McCunes?
Hiya Vic, everything’s good here, never heard much about les Boyd but I know when he left Mcunes he went doing security at one of the big supermarket chains because when I was on the brewery was delivering to a supermarket warehouse and I think it was somewhere in STockton he was a security guard at the gate, we recognised each other and had a quick word but never saw him again, give my regards to the lads when you see them, please have a word with your mate from Edwards. DennisR

I did not know any of the Darlington lads Dennis but i knew Peter himself very well he was a brilliant buisness man and a very nice person and like all of his staff he worked very hard. He knew the potato trade inside out and paid everyone promptly, he ran mainly AEC vehicles but then moved onto Volvo later. The crazy season was when the Pembroke potatoes were ready and then every vehicle went down there and were running 24 hours per day getting them to the markets all over the uk i’m not sure how the new digi-tachs would have coped in those days.
Peter’s main men at Tetney were Tony Boreham, big Ted from Epworth, Dave Nicholson and John Wrisdale (RIP) who went on found Louth Potato Co which is still flourishing today and of course his son Martin who had just started.
I remember them as a fine company with ■■■■ good staff.
I wish your father in law a very happy birthday and i hope some more of his friends get in touch after reading your thread.
