Started new employment a couple of weeks ago. Employer should have sent off paperwork for a PVG certificate but somwhow misplaced it. Sent it off again and said they couldn’t pay wages and layed me off awaiting it’s arrival. Does anyone know if they can do this and does it effectively mean the contract has been broken.
Legally, it depends on what it says in your contract (either written or verbal). But do you really want to work for a firm which treats you like this?
As I understand, it can take up to three months to receive a contract, so I haven’t seen that yet and nothing has been said verbaly. Yes, your last sentence expresses my sentiments exactly. Thanks.
Fail to see why it should take 3 months for a contract, we issue ours within a month, it’s a case of fill in a few boxes and then press print as contracts are pretty standard to each firm.
You are paying for their mistake, which doesn’t seem fair to me.
Yes, I agree with both sentiments exactly.
No pay, No stay …

You should have been shown/received a copy of the contract when you accepted the job. How can you accept a job if you don’t know the terms?
Hell even every agency I’ve ever signed up with have presented me with a contract to go over first and I’ve only been deemed to have accepted employment from them once I’ve signed it.
