People messing with your Vehicle - a little rant!

I have a big problem with people who think it’s ok to start to unload before I’m even out of the cab or sometimes before I’ve even put the handbrake on!

I dunno if it’s mainly a flatbed thing cos all is there to be seen, but I hate it…

They pull my straps off, that’s if they don’t mess them up and jam them whilst trying to do it. They get them half off and chuck them around with the ratchets still dangling off and twisting up.

They also start taking the restraining poles out of the side of the lorry, and worst of all they jump up on the bed without asking me if they can and sometimes walk all over stuff like oak or birch veneer faced sheets of ply with their muddy boots.

I dunno if I’m being petty but I have a way of doing things…a routine… to make sure my lorry stays in good order and safely loaded.

On the other hand I don’t have the temperament to start shouting the odds over it…I do have ways of indicating that their ‘assistance’ is uncalled for…like taking the straps away from them or jumping up and standing next to them til they take the hint.

The other day some site labourer did almost all of these things and then told me to make sure I had my hazards on (we were unloading on the road and they were already on).

I don’t tell anybody their job…and wouldn’t dream of messing with any equipment that didn’t concern me.

The final thing is opening your cab door from the outside to talk to you. If I want to talk to a driver in a cab where the door is closed and he hasn’t seen me I knock on it and wait for him/her to open the door or window.

Had to get this one off my chest as it’s been a bad day for this sort of thing.

I hope you feel better now  .
Can’t help you much on a solution, but it might be great to have a long term rant thread to get things like this off your chest.
I’d have loads to post, mainly about my co-driver. What a total ?*^?&$"£!!%$£!^^$!%^$%£^%$&@^%"£.

I do feel better…

but I forgot about the door locking ie. “are you calling us a bunch of theives?” thing cos that came up as well…but I’ve mentioned that before I think.

I think the rant thread would be a good idea as long as it didn’t get repetitive.

If you want to really get up my nose, open my drivers door to talk to me :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp: It’ll work every time!

Yep, the door thing irritates me too…and since so many box drivers grab a snooze whilst leaning against it, the practice is also bloody dangerous! I’ve seen and known several people who have nearly fallen out, and heard of one guy who did and wound up with a broken neck (a colleague’s father, so not just hearsay). :open_mouth:

However, I have found a very simple solution. Lock the door. Do not open it until the offending ignoramus knocks! :smiling_imp:

Thats why I lock my door!

I always used to get blinkin builders jumping up on the motor to help with the handles (bulk bags) but all they really did was get in the way of my extremely hazardous crane!

No its not just flatbeds andyroo and the one I
remember the most was a guy who climbed
up and started pulling on the tail lift trying to
open it. I seen this and had to tell him that it
needs a key. I had to tell him to stand back as
when I was sending it back up he had is fingers
in the way.

I guess they all needed to prove that they were stronger than your 5ton Hiab!

I delivered shopping to someone once (tesco.com), backed onto the drive and it was flooded with 2ft of water. They all came out with waders on, naturally i just leant out of the window and said “it’s that one!”

I used to get rather irate with the deck hands on the channel ferries who, after getting you to within a ■■■ papers distance of the vehicle in front, would then quite happily jump up on the cab steps and FOLD THE MIRROR ARMS IN FLAT AGAINST THE WINDOW!!! :imp: :imp: :imp: :imp:

Normally if I see some numpty walking towards me I always stick my elbow on the button and lock the door - it really irritates me when someone opens my door - they wouldn’t do it at my house would they.

Once I was parked up at South Mimms for my 45 and was reading the paper when the door opened - I looked down and this bloke was looking at me.

‘What you doing in my wagon’ he said

I’m not in your wagon’

And I wasn’t, he’d forgotten where he’d parked his.

i hate people opening my door as well now i leave it locked or just lock when i see someone coming over to me as for people tampering with the load ive had it before where people muck about with the straps but i tell them to get off and leave it alone :imp: :imp: :imp:    i hate it when someone else has been out in my lorry and only undone the ratchets and left them in a knot.

someone messed with mine once he told me to pull of the bay and move it over a couple if inches because he could’nt get the pallets off, i did as i was told, he on the other hand decided to have another go at getting the pallet off, so when i pulled off he, the pallet and the forklift followed me. but at least he got the pallet off.

The Company,if you know it’s always and speaking will not help,

If you have loaded for anywhere you will go past that place, just pop in,have a talk with someone you know there for somethings which is importand for you or him, about Bikes or so, and when Lorry is empty let them loading it again,as the fright is for a other place
