Does anyone know what pentons in Shrewsbury are like to work for?
Do you like old lorries?
As far as I…
Can see, all of their fleet is over length. They use tag axles coupled to fridge trailers the gap between is huge. I gave one their drivers a hand last year. He was having a right punch-up with a fridge compartment door that wouldn’t budge because of the vacuum. I just shoved a bit of timber in the corner, let some air in and whadya know, up she went.
They used to be Cadwalladers many years ago and had a reputation as superb frisby throwers.
Possibly all bling and no ker-ching but that’s just a guess.

All bling? Are we talking about the same Pentons?
Seems to be a lot of multi drop, every driver of theirs I see seems to have gotten to work via a hedge, backwards. Other than that and ancient tackle I’m sure they’re great to work for.
Mate of mine worked for em over 10yrs ago , don’t let the old motors fool you , he couldn’t fault the maintenance & any problems were sorted asap . Youll probably be away all week & max out your hrs & need a small tool kit & spare suzies for running repairs . At the time he was self employed & earned good money , but as I said it was 10 yrs ago .
Ps Cadwallader was completely different company & they were traditional wild west mob .
Thanks for the replies,I start with them Monday so I’ll give it a go,been doing this job 20 years now so far so nowt fazes me.
Used to be pentons of Oswestry iirc? And yeah, caddys aren’t pentons, 2 different firms.
There’s a YouTube vlogger who works for pentons and he has done loads of videos from behind the wheel. Watch a few of them and you’ll get a good idea of what work you’ll be doing. He seems to be often in a manual as well.
Also Smithfield market would seem a regular occurrence.
The chaps YouTube name is just “mark pritchard” if you want to search him. Like I say he’s got a load of videos on his channel with some pretty decent content.
Ok thanks
Maybe old lorries but proper tidy most of them,
Old motors have to be maintained especially doing distance so can’t see an issue there personally…
Been going a long time and don’t seem to be falling into the “corporate” crap most firms do now
I’d much prefer going with a long establish ‘proper’ haulier with older properly maintained manual trucks than these bloody “logistics solutions” firms that have crappy fleet spec autos that have been abused by amateurs (at best).
I have to say, I think pentons trucks look smart. Yes, they are not as modern as some, but a year or so ago I had to deliver some steel there, and I have to say I got more respect and politeness from Pentons staff, than you do at a lot of big companies. Their workshops were tidy, well laid out and clean. The general outside view of the company seems to be good. And, iirc, one of theirs had a fatal on the M5 near to J4…Blowout■■?.. and im certain that at the coroners court, the vehicle examiner stated that for the age of the vehicle it was meticulously maintained.
Used to pull out of Dairy Crest Nuneaton not sure if they still do,might explain why they are away most of the week
The boss Gary I seem to remember was driving a top spec Volvo a few years ago, very nice bloke and has kept a few old motors for shows. All his lads had older motors but always looked mustard. I think you are away most of the week but his drivers never used to moan. He was away all week too. Old school company but that was about 10 years ago.
