I’ve been caught speeding at work 46 in a 40 & the fine is £100 but the letter states 6 points. Does anyone have any idea why this might be?? Thanks.
My understanding is that if more than 10% then it’s classed as ‘aggressive’ speeding so they add the 3 extra points on
Sounds like a conditional offer with a typo. 46 in a 40 should be con offer with 3 points. Ring the Ticket office concerned to confirm.
6 Seems a bit much even if done in a LGV
What is the exact wording of the letter? TTBOMK 6 points is the upper limit for a straightforward speeding offence. I don’t think you can be given more than 3 points with a Fixed Penalty (not for speeding at any rate).
I thought it was only supposed to be 3. I haven’t received the letter myself I was just informed of it when I got to work today so I should receive a letter at home in the next 14 days & if it’s still 6 points I will let you know the wording, fingers crossed it’s a typo then!!
I doubt it’s a typo - more likely it includes the words “up to”, which is correct as you can indeed get “up to” six points for speeding (if convicted at court).
if you contest it,then its up to 6 points for having the audacity to contest it,its usually only 6 points if they try to do you for more than half above the limit… 46 in a 30 zone,or 61 in a 40 etc…has to be a typo,or you’ve not read the up to/maximum part…46 in a 40 has to be 3.unless you were going sideways when the camera flashed you? I got done a while ago for 64 on the a75, they carried it up to a careless driving as it was more than 50% above the speed limit, but no points as I used my paddy licence and address. happy days
