I had the misfortune of coming across this earlier today. Not a very pretty sight.
My thoughts are with the victim’s family and the driver of the Wilkinson lorry involved.

I cant see whats happened? Has w311 hit someone walking across at the pedestrian lights?
I didn’t see what happened, I arrived just after. But yes, it appeared that the Wilkinson lorry W311 had driven over somebody crossing the road.
Im afraid to say , it’s easy done. Them new front mirrors are awkward to see and get filthy really quickly. Sad for all concerned.

Not nice at all

I agree, there good but can get dirty if there is salt etc on the road. They then become useless.
What gets me is the idiots that walk from behind you when you are stationary around your blind spot and then walk right under the windscreen… Some even do this after the lights have changed green!!! People are just so wrapped up in their lives they haven’t got a clue what’s going on around them.
And I’m not saying that this was the case here. Be interesting to see what the report says.
I’m not sure if the victim might have fallen under the trailer wheels. He ended up inbetween the back of the lorry and the red Mazda following it (see picture). If he didn’t fall under the trailer wheels, then the Wilkinson driver must have driven the whole combination over him.
How come there are 2 wilko’s motors is there a wilko depot nearby?
Before those front mirrors became standard fit, a friend ran over an elderly couple that decided to cross the road right in front of his Actros while he was in a queue of traffic stopped at lights.
The elderly chap was killed.
It is easily done. Not a nice thing to be involved with, but still an eye opener.

Their head office and distribution centre is in Worksop. I’d imagine the one involved was returning to Worksop while the other was coming into the city from Worksop.
I hate to speculate, but do you think it could have been a contributing factor towards the accident? Driver sees his mate coming the other way is momentarily distracted?

It has been mentioned on another site I read
no mention of any one being arrested yet, my thought’s go out to everyone who was involved in this accident. in this day and age it shouldn’t happen, but does…
also this is why i make eye contact with the driver of the vehicle before i even think about crossing the road…

Or walk behind whilst your reversing, or better park there cars behind you as your backing up. The list goes on.
This is very tragic. Who knows what happened but just goes to show it could happen to anyone of us when we least expect it.
Heard from a good source the old chap walked out in front of the wagon

I remember on my lessons I pulled up to a T-Junction and pulled as far forward as I could to deter the person walking down the road to attempt walking across before I pulled out as it was a wide junction. He just kept coming without even looking and just as a gap appeared in the traffic giving me my chance to go he walked right in front of me right up against the front of my truck. Couldn’t see him but saw him coming and knew he was there.
I know a bloke who didn’t see one coming and ran over him. The poor sod had to have a leg amputated. I don’t think he’s drove since, it messed him up.

I can believe that, as we all know what pedestrians are like.
I drive on that section of road 3-4X a day & I fully understand why both lorries appear to have been travelling in lane 2.
There are some horrific photo’s of this particular incident flying around, I reckon every pedestrian who’s ever stepped out & tried their luck on the High St should be made to look at them & see the possible consequences.
My condolences to the friends & family of the deceased.
My thoughts are with the driver, I fear for the day that I know how you feel.
RIP to the pedestrian. I once had an argument with a woman who asked me (because she knew I drove trucks for a living) that if she walked aggressively along a pavement towards, but not onto, a pedestrian crossing would I slow down & be prepared to stop if she then veered onto the crossing?
I thought about what she’d said, then said no, I would act if she was on or about to use the crossing, but could not be responsible for people walking “aggressively” (whatever the **** that means?) near a pedestrian crossing, explaining that I would never get out of 3rd gear if I had to consider the manner of every pedestrian.
She then said I was a dangerous driver, a disgrace to my profession and should stop driving for a living as I was obviously oblivious to other road users.
I pointed out that a pedestrian is not a road user…and got a load of abuse for my trouble.
Sheesh!
